Weโ€™re continuing to introduce you to the curators-in-residence of FORWARD 2026!

Meet Sebastian Boca, assistant curator of our previous exhibition, The Glass Dome Demands Affective Currency.

Sebastian Boca (b. 2003, Suceava) is a visual artist and curator based in Cluj-Napoca. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Painting from the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca and is currently pursuing two Master's degrees simultaneously, in Painting and Contemporary Curatorial Practices, at the same institution. His academic and professional practice is shaped by an ongoing dialogue between artistic and curatorial approaches, with a particular interest in the social dimension of art, as well as in the relationship between image, space, and modes of artistic presentation.
His practice explores new media techniques and their potential to expand and reconfigure artistic discourse. Alongside this, his interest in the philosophy of art criticism informs his understanding of the ways artworks are contextualized, interpreted, and mediated within exhibition spaces. A significant part of his activity focuses on exhibition installation and spatial organization, through which he has gained experience participating in the production and installation of various exhibitions. He approaches the exhibition process from both the artist's and curator's perspectives, with particular attention to the relationship between the artwork, the architecture of the exhibition space, and the viewer's experience. by @rezidenta_forward

The FORWARD 2026 exhibition program may have come to an end, but weโ€™re continuing to introduce you to the curators in residence behind it.

Meet Iarina Sฬฆleam, one of the curators of our previous exhibition, The Glass Dome Demands Affective Currency!

Iarina Sฬฆleam (b. 1998) is based in Cluj-Napoca, where she completed a BA at the Faculty of Letters in English and Norwegian Language and Literature, which she followed up with an MA in Contemporary Curatorial Practices. There, her research mainly focused on the visual and material legacies of the former Eastern Bloc following the fall of communism, examining how post-socialist artistic strategies process rapid transition, ideological shifts, and memory. Now, her interest shifts toward minor histories, such as unearthing localized micro-narratives, overlooked archives, and peripheral artistic movements that challenge dominant geopolitical canons, as well as responses to late-stage capitalism, exploring themes of labor, precarity, nostalgia, anxiety, and institutional critique. by @rezidenta_forward

Siฬ‚nziana Staฬ†nese (b. 1999) is an art historian and independent visual archivist, with a background in curatorial practices, psychology, and educational sciences. She is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, where she has led seminars in visual studies and art history. Her professional practice bridges transdisciplinary research and independent projects, encompassing cultural mediation, editorial production, and initiatives that foster dialogue between artistic processes, institutional frameworks, and audiences.
Her long-standing engagement with challenging concepts such as the image-symptom, impure time, and kaleidoscopic history has shaped a research approach situated at the intersection of exact sciences and the humanities. Within this framework, she seeks to connect unconventional anthropological and historiographic models with contemporary perspectives from complex systems theory, aiming to develop a nuanced understanding of the patterns and dynamics that govern the evolution of the artistic image over time.

We are delighted to announce the last exhibition part of the FORWARD Residency 2026: "The Glass Dome Demands Affective Currency", featuring works by Adrian Ganea, Ana Petrovici, Caฬ†taฬ†lin Burcea, Dan Beudean, Flaviu Rogojan, Luis Draฬ†jan and Paul Ilfoveanu, curated by Iarina Sฬฆleam and Siฬ‚nziana Staฬ†nese.

The show will open on Friday, August 14th, 7 PM, at MATCA artspaceย @matcaartspaceย - Calea Turzii 21, Cluj-Napoca (RO)

"The Glass Dome Demands Affective Currency" is an exhibition that explores the paradigm shift from the panoptic society to the digital panopticon, analyzing the valences that freedom takes on once we have agreed to the terms and conditions of being watched and surveilled. We integrated the infrastructures of surveillance, feed them gestures and confessions, willingly turning on the lights, drawing the curtains and broadcasting live from our own home, which, in turn, ends up distorting from a space of safety, refuge and resting into a non-space, an aquarium of perpetual production and exposure.
The selected works debate this fragmentation and exhaustion of the self from the moment it has created its digital carbon copy, where voluntary exposure becomes self-exploitation, where the mental boundaries we could draw around intimacy become blurred. Within this glass dome, self-regulatory mechanisms are getting increasingly difficult to implement, and escapism turns into unpaid emotional labor at the data center.

We continue presenting the curators-in-residence of this edition by introducing Miruna Draฬ†gusฬฆanu, who assisted the curatorial team of our current exhibition, What Remains When the Market Goes Silent

Miruna Draฬ†gusฬฆanu is an emerging curator and currently a PhD candidate in Visual Arts, with a Bachelor's degree in Art History and Theory and a Master's degree in Contemporary Curatorial Practices, obtained from University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca. Her activity is defined by the exploration of contemporary art from feminist perspectives, having as a central objective the mapping and promotion of female artists from Romania. She considers curating an act of cultural responsibility; therefore, her work methodology focuses on collaborative formats and on the generation of critical content, transforming simple exhibitions into strategies for the visibility of essential, yet insufficiently explored, artistic perspectives. Her curatorial activity includes exhibitions such as โ€œLow-Key Epiphanyโ€ at Relicvar, Cluj-Napoca within Praxis! Emergent Curatorsโ€™ Days, (2025), โ€œActs of Belongingโ€ at Mansarda Gallery, Timisฬฆoara (2026), and โ€œLow-Key Epiphanyโ€ at the International Center for Contemporary Art - Baia Turceascaฬ†, Iasฬฆi, as part of Romanian Creative Week (2026). by @rezidenta_forward

Eva Luca (b. 1997, Constantฬฆa) is a visual artist and curator currently completing a master's degree in Contemporary curatorial practices, driven by a deep commitment to the dialogue between art, artists, and the public.
As a curator, her research and practice center on political themes and the urgency of climate change, alongside a sustained engagement with queer and gender theory. She is particularly invested in the representation of marginalized groups within contemporary art spaces, working to create platforms where these voices are seen, heard, and taken seriously โ€” not as a token gesture, but as a core curatorial principle.
As a visual artist, she explores these same thematic threads through a different lens, with a growing focus on video art and analog electronics โ€” mediums that let her experiment with texture, glitch, and materiality as ways of thinking through identity, memory, and resistance.
Beyond her studio and curatorial work, Eva has remained closely tied to grassroots and community initiatives: she coordinated a civic guide for young activists and social changemakers back in 2020, and has consistently supported local creative and activist communities. Her work is rooted in the belief that art โ€” and the spaces that hold it โ€” can be sites of genuine connection, critical reflection, and social change. by @rezidenta_forward

Tudor Costin (b. 1995, Dej) is an artist living in Cluj-Napoca. During the past few years, he has been involved in various cultural projects, organizing events and exhibitions, collaborating with different organizations such as galleries, public institutions, and underground spaces. Thus, he has developed an interest in curatorial practice, seeking to engage in all stages of exhibition-making, from conceptualization, to being preoccupied with printed materials to technical aspects such as installing artworks, building art installations and other adjacent systems.

His theoretical focus is centered on violence, approached from a socio-political viewpoint, and a subjective perspective, influenced by his closeness to the tradition of anarchist thought. His doctoral research has focused on the relationship between art and war, revolutions, sexual violence, and religious violence. In his practice, he prefers to approach subjects in a manner he traces back to the Bakhtinian carnivalesque, discovered through his philological studies. Childhood stories, humor, play and the toy as an object, as well as the use of subjective memory, are tools he employs both in his own artistic practice and in the way he relates to the discourse of the artists he engages with.

The exhibition raises questions about the role of the artist and the artwork in the context of the multiple crises generated by the various mutations of capitalism today. What remains when the market goes silent? does so within a context marked by a predominantly pessimistic attitude. What remains when the market goes silent? is the third exhibition in the FORWARD Residency programme.
