We had to cancel our upcoming tour for medical reasons, and now our boy Phil Hook needs your help!

You already know that when Hook plays drums, he only plays them one way: with everything he’s got! What most of you don’t know is that Phil has played the last 6 tours with a painful hernia. Unfortunately, it’s very hard for a musician who plays for the love of music to get health insurance to cover the cost of surgery, so Hook has just been toughing it out.

Unfortunately, the hernia has gotten so painful and grown in size that without medical attention he can no longer tour or do the thing he loves most. We want to raise money to help pay for his surgery, plus money to allow him to pay bills and get groceries while he heals from the surgery. Anything you can do to help and allow Hook to get back on the road and sharing his love and passion for drumming and also allow that smile of his to be seen around the world is greatly appreciated!

Some bands arrive with noise. Others seem to rise out of the horizon like heat shimmering across the desert floor. High Desert Queen has that kind of presence.

Formed in Austin, Texas, the band has become one of the strongest names in today’s heavy rock underground. Their debut full-length Secrets of the Black Moon turned heads with its massive riffs, soaring vocals, and songs that carried as much feeling as weight. They followed it with Palm Reader, a record that pushed their sound even further while keeping the heart of the band intact. Along the way they’ve shared stages with artists across the heavy rock and stoner scene, building a reputation one show at a time.

If you’ve seen High Desert Queen live, you already know. The songs grow larger once they leave the studio. There’s a quiet confidence to what they do. Nothing feels forced. The room settles into the groove and before long everyone is moving with it. It’s the kind of performance that stays with you long after the last note fades into the night.

The desert has always had a way of drawing together wandering souls. This March, another path leads to Mojave Experience.

Day 60, 61, 62, 63, & 64: Rome, Italy. We finished up the trip with a stay in Rome. Stayed in a cool area to get a feel for what it’s like to live in the city. You certainly won’t go hungry or ever get bored in Rome. This is officially the longest I’ve traveled and it’s been amazing. The tour with @highdesertqueen was amazing and of course traveling with the best travel companion anyone could have (my wife) has made this trip incredibly memorable.

The @vans survived the trip and deserve to be celebrated. They’ve seen more things in the past 2 months than some see in a lifetime. I’m a lucky man, and my feet don’t hurt. I just need them to get me through the airport and home and they’ve done their job.

Next stop: TEXAS!!! We have a 24 hour travel day with crazy layovers but then I’ll be in the land of tacos, queso, and iced tea….and I CAN’T WAIT! The food has been great on this trip, but nothing beats Tex-Mex. I plan on eating queso and drinking iced tea for the next several days to get my body back to normal. Day 57, 58, 59: Petrovac, Montenegro. Tried another beach town in Montenegro. Cool place if you like hanging on the beach. Very pretty and quiet town with a lot of history. Mostly locals and families walking around. It’s no Croatia, but this country has its charm.

Next stop: we head back to Rome for some more Italian food. My biggest complaint on Montenegro is the food. Not a lot of variety. Same can be said I guess for Italy as they pretty much only have Italian food…but it’s amazing.

US sludge-doom collective @stay_dead_band (with members of High Desert Queen, Aiwass, Hollow Light) share their new single “Electric Mistress” featuring @highonfireband legend @mattpike1972 on guest vocals and guitar!

The band is set to release their debut full-length “Beneath The Weight Of Worlds” — featuring guest appearances from Troy Sanders (Mastodon), Matt Pike (High On Fire), Eryka Fir (Coma Hole) and Aiwass — this July 24th on Ripple Music.

Bringing together musicians from across the US heavy underground, Stay Dead! is a heavy, emotionally charged sludge-doom collective founded by U.S. Army veteran Christopher Borrelli as a means of survival, healing, and reclamation that channels crushing heaviness, meditative tension, and cinematic atmosphere into songs that confront the darkest corners of the human experience while searching for meaning beyond them.

Day 52, 53, 54, 55, & 56: Budva, Montenegro. We were happy to be back in this city. We love beach and the old town. The food may not be as good as in Italy, but the sights definitely are. We made it up to Lake Skadar this time and now we have to come back to explore there more, as well as the north part of the country.

I have to admit I didn’t wear the @vans as much on this trip as my feet were mostly in the sand. I prefer it that way.

Next stop: Petrovac, Montenegro.

Day 50 & 51: Pompeii, Sorrento, Capri. Probably the most beautiful area of Italy. I’ll also admit, this place was much hotter than Texas. Lots of great history and beautiful scenery. No surprise but there was also amazing food.

@vans continue to explore ancient ruins and beautiful cities. Next stop, we are heaved back to Montenegro. We fell in love 2 years ago and we can’t wait to get back.

Day 49: Naples, Italy. Beautiful city on the coast with views of Mt. Vesuvius. We took an underground tour of the Bubonica which many had to take cover in during WWII. Lots of history in this city.

@vans just see more and more amazing places. Headed to Pompeii and Sorrento next!
