We’re celebrating the ribbon cutting of “Amulet” by Rhea Vedro (@rheavedro) on December 19, and we can’t wait to share more about the process behind this stunning new public art project!

🔨 For this project, Vedro invited Boston community members to create “wishmarks”, hammering into steel panels while focusing on a wish, at workshops across the City (part of @thetriennial’s Public Art Accelerator).

🏢 Hundreds of wishmarks are welded into this sculpture, which now stands outside the 2nd floor entrance to Boston’s City Hall.

🪽 “Amulet” represents a family of guardian birds protecting the moving energy of the city, offering us safe passage through a shared landscape.

📆 Celebrate “Amulet” with us! We’re hosting a ribbon cutting on Friday, December 19, from 12 - 2 p.m. at the Civic Pavilion (5 Congress St.).

🔗 RSVP for the ribbon cutting at the link in our bio.

Boston got its own good luck charm, “Amulet,” a 19-foot-tall tangle of organic spires embedded with the wishes, hopes, and prayers of residents from across the city.

The public artwork, by artist @rheavedro—also a lecturer and metals artist in residence at DMSE—was installed on the north side of City Hall, in a newly renovated stretch of the plaza along Congress Street, in October, and dedicated with a ribbon cutting on December 19.

“I’m really interested in this idea of protective objects worn on the skin by humans across cultures, across time,” said Vedro. “And then how do you take those ideas off the body and turn them into a blown-up version—a stand-in for the body?”

#WIP Amulet moving to new studio in RI to finish up this summer. I’ve had my home studio shut down for now by a zoning issue with the police. Hugest gratitude to my family, friends, neighbors and community who came through to help me move these pieces mid workflow. New workshop on loan thanks to @kcyeager333 ♥️. My son Oscar and husband Graham true ride or die! Graham took lead to help me pack/unload and drive 4 trips in the rain from Boston to RI in the 26’ truck. He is also my new favorite forklift driver. (Not on IG)Feeling grateful to those who have supported my dreams at every turn. This piece is essentially a steel prayer to/through hawks and birds so we rise above. Stay tuned for updates and ribbon cutting date with @artsinboston
