Shout out to the work of @theartistmiles and @thisisanoriginalworkofart for the I AM Exhibit @harvardlocal. Great Job! I felt like @john_adekoje and myself were looking in the mirror of our work with @gardnermuseum that started in 2021. Harvard Graduate School of Education @hgse_alumni Alum Keith Mascoll’s Empty Frames AKA Emptiness is a response to the 17th-century empty gilded frame in the Gardner’s Dutch Room. The golden frame held the stolen Rembrandt painting, Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee. Featuring special guest Writer/ Director/ with cinematography by John Oluwole ADEkoje. We @thetriggeredproject1 have turned our work into a curriculum for self reflection and healing with the help of Dr Denise McLane Davidson @sistahdoc to teach Social Workers, Phycologists, Educators and the community how to use art and storytelling to talk about trauma. We have empowered many to tell their stories and stand in their truth as a form of liberation . Those stories inspire me as I continue this work every day. Our Empty Frames work is international. Instructors of 3.094 (Materials in Human Experience) found evidence of smelted iron on May 14 in a furnace built in the style of the Mossi people of Burkina Faso.

The day before, students and volunteers took turns working the bellows to supply oxygen to the fire and maintain temperatures of about 1,200 degrees Celsius. The team is now analyzing the resulting porous iron bloom, with CT scan results supporting their initial findings.

At the CPW Expo on April 17, DMSE faculty, staff, and students met prospective @MIT first-years and introduced materials science and engineering as a field of study and career path.

Students in Frances Ross’s 3.001 (Science and Engineering of Materials) put a recent lesson on cement into practice Tuesday in the Merton C. Flemings Materials Processing Laboratory (the forge and foundry), mixing and pouring it into molds to harden into various forms.

DMSE’s Shaymus Hudson, with @mtarkanian and @rheavedro, pours molten bronze into molds in the Merton C. Flemings Materials Processing Laboratory—the forge and foundry.

Wax carvings of MIT seals are baked out first, and the bronze fills the empty molds, forming medallions for every DMSE graduate at Commencement.

Have you had the chance to check out Public Art Accelerator Alum Rhea Vedro’s newest sculpture?

The above photos depict an early iteration of "Amulet", a multiphase project that grew from Bostonians’ own wishes into the bird-inspired sculptures that now guard City Hall Plaza.

This particular phase, titled “Workbench” took shape as Vedro’s Accelerator project in 2022 where community members were invited to hammer wishmarks into steel panels that were then incorporated into the sculpture itself. Stop by City Hall Plaza to see "Amulet" in it's final form!

Boston got its own good luck charm, “Amulet,” a 19-foot-tall tangle of organic spires embedded with the wishes, hopes, and prayers of residents from across the city.

The public artwork, by artist @rheavedro—also a lecturer and metals artist in residence at DMSE—was installed on the north side of City Hall, in a newly renovated stretch of the plaza along Congress Street, in October, and dedicated with a ribbon cutting on December 19.

“I’m really interested in this idea of protective objects worn on the skin by humans across cultures, across time,” said Vedro. “And then how do you take those ideas off the body and turn them into a blown-up version—a stand-in for the body?”
