The little man that could

Elk Grove/Sacramento has been a dead zone in terms of cymbal culture. When I first started out, I kinda questioned why couldn’t we be just as good? So I set out in my marching career to help prove that we could just be as good. I was never really marching just for myself, but for others. I wanted to prove to and inspire others to believe that the dream they want is attainable, even if they didn’t believe it that very second. Leaving the activity, I feel my goal and purpose in the activity has been achieved. The area has grown so much in terms of a cymbal community since I started my marching career, and I feel satisfied with leaving this side of the activity. Thank you everyone who gave me an opportunity to prove myself. FTC, stay sticky.

This is going to be a long one.

At the beginning of the 2026 audition season, I was ready to give it all up because things didn’t go well for me. Not too long after, I had people from previous Meraki years urging me to come out and audition for Meraki. I go out, think really deeply about it, get offered a contract, and decided to do it. To be honest, it was not an easy season for me. Most of my life outside of Meraki was just working and practicing in order to afford and be able to show up every weekend. There would be times I would get home from Meraki at 4:30 AM, and have to go to work at 5:30 AM. I gave up everything just to be here.

Was it all worth it?

Yes. Yes it was all worth it. The experiences I had at Meraki changed me for the better. I value every new relationship I made throughout the season. Although it cost me greatly, I don’t take back my decision to march Meraki. I couldn’t see myself aging out anywhere else and enjoying it. Thank you all for fighting with me on the floor. I’m glad I chose to not retire and pick it up one last time.
