POWER WORDS! Resilience. Empathy. Perseverance. Authenticity. Courage.

I’m hoping to plant little sparks of inspiration that kids can carry with them — sparks that might start conversations between parents and kids, teachers and kids, and most importantly, within kids themselves.

The hope is that these little sparks stick with them — and maybe become the beginning of a growth mindset that grows alongside them.

I’m also aware that I’m not some guru messenger for any of this! No way. I’ve made plenty of mistakes, had tons of setbacks, and had more than my fair share of flat-out failures. I mean, I left college for Cali to become Eddie Vedder and look how that turned out! Ha. Anyone who knows me knows I’ve eaten it plenty.

But the funny thing is, I’ve been practicing this growth-mindset stuff for most of my life without ever knowing it had a name. I’ve been knocked down, felt beaten up, discouraged, and completely unsure of what comes next so many times. But there’s always been something in me that gets back up and keeps pushing.

So I’m not here to preach. I’m just sharing a little bit of what I’ve learned in the hope that maybe it gives someone else — especially a kid — a little nugget of positivity, resilience, or belief in themselves.

These songs and this message originally started as something just for my own kids, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that if something can potentially help another kid, why would I not try and share it?

Actually, that opens up a whole other conversation about the possible embarrassment if this Shoe Biters thing crashes and burns but let me get back on track here…

Wrapping up here! Ha. We all love our kids. We all want what’s best for them. We’re all trying to teach them, encourage them, and give them whatever tools we can. Pouring on the cheese here, but it really does take a village.

I’m just trying to be a good villager.

And if you actually made it this far… wow. Thanks for reading this. Anyone who knows me well is probably laughing and rolling their eyes because my texts are notoriously MONSTER TEXTS and I go on and on and on and apparently have no idea how to stop writing. Ha!

“Growl’s Rockin’ Growth Mindset” is the name of my assembly I’ve been doing for elementary school students recently.

Shoe Biters also has a new album out named POWER WORDS! Vol. 1 and animated videos and character adventures on YouTube Kids.

Who were my buddies who called me The Alien?!?! Well, Skip doesn’t have an Instagram but @ajbuckley does! We reminisced about this span of time on the @ajbuckleyshow that month!

25 years of VO, 1st full read on video.

I guess I’ve always been kinda private and shy about this stuff but I’m a huge fan of what Jesse Cole and the Savannah Bananas do. They bring joy to families, put the fans first, and have created something genuinely positive in the world.

Thank you to @disneyplus and @thesavbananas for letting me be small part of this BIG event. We recorded it yesterday afternoon (Tuesday), and just a few hours later, it was on the air. I thought it might be fun to show you a little of what happened behind the scenes.

In honor of Jesse’s legendary yellow tux… a bright, unmistakable symbol of joy, optimism, and his belief that baseball can bring people together… I put on my “Growls” and tried to bring a little Shoe Biters spirit to Banana Ball. 🍌🤘

We are trying to create something genuinely positive in the world as well. The Bananas are at the top of that mountain, and I’m at the foot, looking up with appreciation and admiration.

Along with Banana Nation, I’ll be cheering on @yellowtuxjesse and whichever two teams make it to the Bowl on Disney+ on October 10! 🍌⚾️

Lastly, if it wasn’t for the multi instrumental genius in one of my best buddies of 30+ years pouring his heart and soul into every note of this music… it would just be me on my couch playing these songs on the acoustic guitar for my wife and kids.
