💙 WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY | START THE CONVERSATION

This World Mental Health Day, TOGS Mind and The Ricky Hatton Foundation are coming together to encourage more conversations about mental health and, importantly, to remind people that support is available when you need it.

Starting a conversation can be the first step towards getting help.

You don’t need the perfect words. Sometimes simply asking “How are you, really?”, asking twice and taking the time to listen can make a real difference.

But knowing where to turn next matters too.

TOGS Mind provide a range of mental health and wellbeing services for people across Tameside, Oldham, Glossop and Stockport, including:

💙 Group wellbeing activities
💙 Peer support opportunities
💙 Information, advice and signposting
💙 Support for children, young people and families

Ricky Hatton, the former light-welterweight, WBA welterweight champion and Kostya Tszyu-conqueror, was born in Stockport #OnThisDay in 1978.

"From 2001 to 2005 Ricky Hatton changed the face of British boxing," said Steve Bunce.

"He had 12 sell-outs at the Manchester Arena and made that his home, or citadel.

"As he has admitted, he wasn't the best British boxer in history but he was, without a doubt, the most popular."

We tragically lost Ricky in 2025 at just 46 years old.

Rest in peace, champ.

On what would have been his 48th birthday, we’re bringing together the people who loved him, laughed with him and cheered him on, for one huge singalong in his memory.

💙 Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton 💙

During his boxing career, he held multiple world championships in the light-welterweight division, and one at welterweight. In 2005 he was named Fighter of the Year by The Ring magazine, the Boxing Writers Association of America, ESPN, and BoxingScene.

Ricky was a true inspiration and will forever be remembered as a British boxing legend.

Suit on. Washing-up sponge on a stick for a microphone. His little boy beside him singing and dancing. And a full Tony Angelino-style rendition of “Cwying”.

Frazer and Ricky bonded over their shared love of Only Fools and Horses, so there really couldn’t have been a more perfect song choice.
