Today we remember and celebrate Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton on his birthday.

A true icon of British boxing and a fighter who gave us nights that will live long in the memory. From that unforgettable victory over Kostya Tszyu in Manchester to taking thousands of fans across the Atlantic for those famous nights in Las Vegas, Ricky created memories that went far beyond wins and world titles.

Two-weight world champion. Relentless pressure fighter. One of the greatest fan followings this country has ever seen.

But more importantly, he was one of our own — down-to-earth, funny and loved by boxing fans across Britain and beyond.

Happy Birthday, Hitman. Forever missed, never forgotten. 🎯❤️

🥊 45 wins.
🔥 The man who beat Kostya Tszyu, sold out the MEN Arena and took 30,000 of us to Vegas.

And last September, at just 46 years old, we lost him. 🕊️💔

If Ricky could ever feel like he had no one in his corner, anyone can.

Ricky Hatton, the former light-welterweight, WBA welterweight champion and Kostya Tszyu-conqueror, was born in Stockport #OnThisDay in 1978.

"From 2001 to 2005 Ricky Hatton changed the face of British boxing," said Steve Bunce.

"He had 12 sell-outs at the Manchester Arena and made that his home, or citadel.

"As he has admitted, he wasn't the best British boxer in history but he was, without a doubt, the most popular."

We tragically lost Ricky in 2025 at just 46 years old.

Rest in peace, champ.

During his boxing career, he held multiple world championships in the light-welterweight division, and one at welterweight. In 2005 he was named Fighter of the Year by The Ring magazine, the Boxing Writers Association of America, ESPN, and BoxingScene.

Ricky was a true inspiration and will forever be remembered as a British boxing legend.
