I disappeared from here for a while. Not intentionally. Life got very real.
In February, I was diagnosed with a Grade 3 brain tumor. There are sentences you imagine hearing. This wasn’t one.

Days later, I had a right temporal lobectomy. Then came words I never wanted: pathology, IDH mutation, radiation, seizures, Keppra, Vimpat, Temodar.
TMZ.
I like TMZ. It sounds less scary.
My family had been scared enough.
I did 33 rounds of radiation. Lost hair on one side. Had seizures. Started chemo. Five nights of pills, 23 days recovery, then again.
Life got incredibly small.
And somehow, at the same time, enormous.

A walk with my dog.
Eggs for my kids.
Cooking dinner.
Under the big oak tree.
Rain on my skin.
Birds in the morning.
Opening the gate for my daughter.
My son eating Honey Nut Cheerios.
Taking out the fucking trash.

These aren’t the things I thought made up a life. Now I think they might be the whole thing.
People tell me I’m different.
Of course I’m different.
How the fuck could I not be?
Someone cut open my skull. I went through radiation. I’m on chemo. I’ve faced mortality as a husband, father, friend, son, businessperson—and the guy expected to make dinner.
But different doesn’t mean gone.

I’m still here.
I’m still the dad who asks if everyone’s hungry.
I’m still the guy who makes you laugh.
I’m still walking the dogs.
I’m still cooking.
I’m still working.
I’m still loving.
I’m still dreaming.
I’m still fighting.
My hair is coming back, the medical development of 2026. 😂
Cancer has taken things from me. But it gave me something too.
It made me pay attention.
To my children. Family. Friends. Strangers. Trees. Birds. Food. Breath. Faith. The privilege of another ordinary day.
I found God in unexpected places.
I found love everywhere.
I’ve come to believe this:
There is a light that connects us all, and the light is love.
The gift of love is giving ourselves to others.
I don’t know what the rest of this story looks like.
None of us do.
But I’ll keep showing up.
One day at a time.
Sometimes one moment at a time.
I’m healing.
I’m growing.
I’m living.
I’m still here.

And I have so much fucking life left to live.
Thanks for waiting for me.
I’m back. 💙
