#babbasawtsoundlab is coming to an end, after a month of forced labour, the babbasawt team will have their end of residency performance tonight, wednesday february 5th at 7pm in #darmeso, where they are inviting our infamous RIG for some forced labour and they will be joining them for a multi-cultural performance.

“Above Our Waters” is a multimedia A/V live performance by Dhia Douss and Qusay Awad that follows the personal yet fictional and metaphorical depths of water. Combining modular synthesizers with field recordings and a video installation. The two Berlin based sound artists create an immersive audiovisual live performance that seeks to evokate moments of fluid, multidisciplinary storytelling while unfolding environments that arise beyond cultural heritage. In doing so, they develop a new language, speaking about the shared sea waters, myths of waters and fishers.

The performance will serve as the closing event for their 10-day artistic residency, held in collaboration with HOMRANE SUSTAINABLE LIVING.

R.I.G is an improvisation project born from a need for free expression through sound and performance. The trio, composed of Rami Harrabi, Ismael Lassoued and Ghassen Ben Brahim, found their first opportunity in the routines of live performance and used this opportunity to break away from these routines.

In improvisation, there are no mistakes, only missed opportunities. R.I.G explores these opportunities through repetition and accidents.

Breath sounds, arterial murmurs,
Noises of the body.

Short session with improvising lyricist/sound artist Freya Edmondes aka @elvinbrandhi , recorded in the beginning of 2023 during her very brief stay in Tunis.

Elvin Brandhi is an improvising lyricist, producer and sound artist from Bridgend, Wales, who builds aberrant beats from field recordings, tape, vinyl, instrument and voice. She uses sound and voice as an expansive language transgressing intrinsic systemics and inherited syntactical etiquettes. Her creative momentum comprises a range of collaborations and an endless nomadism.

@rig_musik is a Tunisian improvisation project formed by Rami Harrabi, Ismael Lassoued, and Ghassen Ben Brahim, born out of a need for free expression through sound and performance. Collaborating with them is @frederic_d_oberland (Oiseaux-Tempête, NAHAL Recordings), a French composer, multi-instrumentalist, and photographer, known for his synesthetic approach blending image and sound.

This SARAB episode is a hypnotic journey through recordings of their improvisations together interspersed with the influences of North African and SW Asian music.

The trio met with @frederic_d_oberland (from @oiseaux_tempete / @_foudre__ / @nahalrecordings …) in the summer of 2021 in a gathering organised by @sailingstonesfest . From that point on the connection was undeniable and the idea of collaborating on something started to form. This ritualistic performance is an embodiment of that idea.
