ABOVE OUR WATERS - فَوْقَ مِيَاهـُنَا
DHIA DOUSS, QUSAY AWAD AND R.I.G
A/V LIVE PERFORMANCE
THURSDAY, JUNE 6 AT 7:30 PM
FREE AND OPEN TO ALL ✨

“Above Our Waters” is a multimedia A/V live performance by Dhia Douss and Qusay Awad that follows the personal yet fictional and metaphorical depths of water. Combining modular synthesizers with field recordings and a video installation. The two Berlin based sound artists create an immersive audiovisual live performance that seeks to evokate moments of fluid, multidisciplinary storytelling while unfolding environments that arise beyond cultural heritage. In doing so, they develop a new language, speaking about the shared sea waters, myths of waters and fishers.

The performance will serve as the closing event for their 10-day artistic residency, held in collaboration with HOMRANE SUSTAINABLE LIVING.

R.I.G is an improvisation project born from a need for free expression through sound and performance. The trio, composed of Rami Harrabi, Ismael Lassoued and Ghassen Ben Brahim, found their first opportunity in the routines of live performance and used this opportunity to break away from these routines.

In improvisation, there are no mistakes, only missed opportunities. R.I.G explores these opportunities through repetition and accidents.

We look forward to seeing you all on Thursday, June 6 at 7.30 pm at #B7L9.

In the face of the current global atrocities, particularly in Palestine, Congo, Armenia, Sudan, and beyond, it’s indescribably frustrating and frightening to witness the suffering of the world we’re living in right now. Our guide of hope lies in the power of communities worldwide to amplify the voices of those currently silenced, demonstrating that solidarity transcends all boundaries.
Art and music have always served as a powerful voice for the oppressed, providing a source of hope and means for global solidarity. This compilation features 69 musicians and bands coming together to call for a ceasefire and an end to the occupation in Palestine, donating their tracks to support the people in Gaza.
Expressing our concern about our worries that donations are not reaching Gaza immediately, all proceeds from this compilation will go directly to local organizations and to families and individuals displaced in Rafah aiming to assist them in acquiring tents, covering rent, and meeting their basic life necessities according to their needs.

We are in contact with friends activists in Gaza @gaza_coalition who will assist us in directing donations based on needs and available means for the transfer. Feel free to reach out to us via IG or Bandcamp for more information if needed.

In the spirit of this collaborative effort, we recite the poignant words of Refaat Alareer, Palestinian writer murdered in East Gaza city on December 6th by Israeli invaders:
If I must die,
you must live
to tell my story
to sell my things
to buy a piece of cloth
and some strings,
(make it white with a long tail)
so that a child, somewhere in Gaza
while looking heaven in the eye
awaiting his dad who left in a blaze—
and bid no one farewell
not even to his flesh
not even to himself—
sees the kite, my kite you made, flying up
above
and thinks for a moment an angel is there
bringing back love
If I must die
let it bring hope
let it be a tale.
