25 Years of RIGS.

What started in Ridgway in 2001 with a few working river guides has grown into 25 years of guiding, teaching, outfitting, and sharing the waters of Southwest Colorado.

We've watched first fish come to the net, trained generations of guides, explored hundreds of miles of water, spent countless days in the Gunnison Gorge, opened Ouray County's first full service fly shop, and worked alongside our community to protect the places that make all of this possible.

But after 25 years, RIGS is still about the same thing it was in the beginning. Good people, good water, and the experiences that bring them together.

As Tim and Heather have always said, "It's not just about the fishing, it's about what you learn from the people you meet. Fishing is just the conduit."

Over the next few months, we'll be digging through the archives and sharing some of the people, places, stories, and moments that have shaped RIGS since 2001.

Thanks to every guide, guest, employee, friend, and member of the Ridgway community who has been part of these first 25 years.

Here's to 25 years, and plenty more days on the water ahead.

Throwing it back to the early days of RIGS.

A lot has changed since 2001. The gear has gotten better, the cameras have gotten a whole lot sharper, but our love for these rivers hasn't changed a bit.

Public lands aren't somewhere far away. They're our backyard.

September 26 is National Public Lands Day, a reminder of just how much these places give us.

From the Cimarrons to the roadless country surrounding the Uncompahgre Wilderness, these lands protect headwaters, high country streams, wildlife habitat, and the places we fish. While Colorado's roadless protections remain in place, the national debate is a reminder that protections for public lands aren't something we should take for granted from the roadless forests surrounding our communities to places like Black Canyon of the Gunnison.
