Rik Grevink is a designer whose work investigates social identity and belonging within local communities. His practice explores how collective rituals, symbols, and everyday culture can be reimagined to question ideas of masculinity, vulnerability, and connection.

De IJzeren Man delves into the meanings of masculinity in small-town contexts — places where manhood is performed, inherited, and quietly questioned. What began as conversations scribbled on beer coasters grew into a visual dialogue through flags inspired by local football supporter banners. Instead of asserting slogans, these banners turn them inside out, transforming statements into open-ended questions about strength, identity, and care. The Iron Man invites reflection rather than definition, asking: can we learn to see men again — as the people they are?

Very grateful to showcase my work among fellow designers at @dutchdesignweek This one feels special, represented by @1m2collective in the exhibition ‘1m² Collective: No Space for Ego.’
Here, we explore what it means to see other makers not as competitors, but as collaborators. By opening up space for dialogue, we reclaim room for voices and conversations that often remain unspoken.

I graduated cum laude! The opening of @dekunstvanhku graduation show was yesterday, and am still buzzing. Thank you to everyone who came, shared, asked, and listened. It meant a lot. After a year of research, tough reflection and designing from the inside out, I’m incredibly proud to present ‘De IJzeren Man’, my graduation project on masculinity, headspace and care in male friendships. And a special moment: my work is featured in the official HKU Graduation Festival catalog, right next to @tinamarcellelenz ‘s essay ‘Het feest van relationeel activisme’. To be placed in that context is an honour! by @rikgrevink

Finally graduating! Together with fellow students from HKU, I’m proud to present my graduation project. This year has been full of challenging conversations, endless experiments, setbacks and breakthroughs. I’m excited to finally share the outcome.
In addition, this month is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, a topic close to my work. My project hopes to spark conversations, create a moment to pause, and encourage reaching out. Give your mates a call, they might need it. Let’s keep talking at the graduation show of HKU. by @rikgrevink
