Strength, stability, coordination, and mobility all in one!

Gyrotonic teaches me once again more about my own body. Where I am super strong and where I am yet to learn!

It almost feels like a journey inwards into my own body and clears up my mind after a rather yet another long week

Maybe ' knowing our muscles ' got a bit competitive here ...

Do you know which muscle helps you get yourself up from a chair?

Your psoas isn’t frozen. But your hips might feel like they are.

( There is no medical diagnoses of frozen Psoas )

When you spend hours sitting, standing up and extending your hips can sometimes feel uncomfortable or restricted.

In GYROTONIC®, combining arching and curling with a hip flexor stretch amplifies control and coordination!

Why?

Because the psoas works across the hip and lumbar spine, and movement involves more than one muscle.

By coordinating the spine, pelvis and hips, we explore mobility while developing control.

And here’s something important: a muscle that feels tight isn’t necessarily short.

What if the moments that didn’t go to plan are the ones that teach us the most?

Failure. Setbacks. Wrong turns. The messy middle.

Three women. Three different perspectives. One powerful reminder: growth rarely happens in a straight line.

If we train together please expect to re-learn how to BREATH when you move!

Breathing isn’t just about getting oxygen into your body. It’s closely connected to your core, your spine, your nervous system and how you manage movement.

Here’s why I teach it before anything else:

🌬️ Your diaphragm is part of your core. It works alongside your deep abdominal muscles and pelvic floor to help manage pressure and support your spine. If you feel NOTHING in a class let's rethink how you are breathing!

🌬️ Breath helps you move with control. Coordinating your breathing with movement can improve awareness, timing and muscular coordination. Let's not just perform!

🌬️ Breathing influences your nervous system. Slow, comfortable breathing can help reduce unnecessary tension and encourage a calmer state. Did I say SLOW? Yes slowwwwwww

🌬️ Breath connects the mind to the movement. It brings your attention back to what your body is doing, rather than simply going through the motions. Here's a fun fact... it's actually advanced work!

Last but not least: “Breathing is the first act of life, and the last. Our very life depends on it.”
— Joseph Pilates, Return to Life Through Contrology (1945)

You can perform an exercise without thinking about your breath. But when you learn to coordinate the two, the quality of your movement can change.

That’s why, in my classes, we start with breath. Not because it’s the easiest principle, but because it lays the foundation for everything that follows.

Next time you move, pay attention to how you breathe. You might be surprised by what you notice.
