Meet the “Syrah trees” 🌳🍇

When we were showing the new Luna Hart Syrah this week, it took us back to the day we visited Hinnrich’s Vineyard with Gretchen and Patty of @luna.hart.wines.

Hinnrich’s is a small family-owned vineyard at the southern edge of Ballard Canyon, planted entirely to Syrah. But it’s a little peculiar…

The vines are trained in an old-school method called Geneva Double Curtain, which creates big vines meant to farm for volume. Gretchen calls them “Syrah trees.”

But they’re rooted in beach sand that looks like it was trucked in and dumped as a joke! That “soil” cuts yields significantly. Pair it with cooling Pacific breezes and Gretchen’s skill, and you get some of the most compelling, and aromatically intoxicating wines in our portfolio.

The newly released 2023 is especially outstanding. If we missed you this week, ping us and we’ll pour it for you. Only 150 cases made. 🍷

Look at this place!

At Sanguis’ Cabernet Franc site for 2026 - at Rancho Sanja Cota Vineyard - yesterday afternoon. Fruit was harvested in the early morning hours today.

One of our favorites from Sanguis every year, their Cab Franc is special. Complex and balanced, with a savory edge. Down to a few cases of 2021. by @rinconwinegroup

Founded by American opera singer Sara Hershkowitz and German-born winemaker Max Hoetzel, Glasrose is a zero-proof sparkling verjus made from organic, early-picked grapes grown on their vineyard and blended with botanicals and florals.

The two are raising their daughter on their organic vineyard while building one of the most exciting new additions to the zero-proof world.

Launched in 2025, Glasrose is already on fire. by @rinconwinegroup

This week we’re featuring @dunites

Husband-and-wife team Rachel Goffinet and Tyler Eck are behind Dunites, a SLO Coast project inspired by the artists and free thinkers who called the dunes of San Luis Obispo home in the 1930s.

After gaining vineyard and cellar experience around the world, Rachel and Tyler brought it back to the Central Coast. Making fresh, honest wines shaped by the SLO Coast’s marine soils and cool ocean influence, they utilize native yeasts for ferments, neutral oak, minimal sulfur and no filtration.

Despite being a newer project, they’re already making serious waves🌊😉 by @rinconwinegroup

This week’s Producer Spotlight: LaBarge Winery

Tucked away on the rugged western edge of the Sta. Rita Hills, LaBarge is a true hidden gem. Their 14-acre certified organic estate is planted to Pinot Noir, Grenache, Syrah, Albariño, and Cabernet Franc—all farmed and made right on the property.

Since 2010, Pierre LaBarge IV and his small team have handled everything from farming to bottling, with native fermentations and a hands-off approach that lets the vineyard do the talking.

They produce just around 2,000 cases a year in their stunning gravity-flow winery—thoughtful, small-production wines from a very special corner of the Sta. Rita Hills. by @rinconwinegroup

For this week’s producer spotlight we’re featuring Aaron & AKANA Wines.

Central Coast native Aaron Jackson has been making wine for over 20 years. He founded Aaron Wines in 2002, focusing on Petite Sirah-centric wines from Paso Robles, followed by Akana (named after his great-grandmother), which pays homage to the extreme coastal winegrowing of the San Luis Obispo Coast AVA— a region he was instrumental in creating.

Brit & Ryan Zotovich make Dreamcôte with the kind of confidence that only comes from knowing exactly what you want in a glass.

Fresh, unpretentious, seriously delicious.

Dress them up. Dress them down. These are wines that show up and impress at a nice meal or a casual picnic — without asking you to think too hard about either.

Pour for anyone. Watch the bottle disappear. Open another.
