What started in 2023 has continued to blossom into a show that helps bridge the gap for communities who may have never seen or experienced tap dance before.

Featuring a cast of emerging, next-generation artists, Ripple Effect brings free, accessible, family-focused tap dance and live music programming to underserved communities — creating new entry points into the art form, one performance at a time 🩵

Tap dance grows through education, performance, mentorship and community.

Toffan Rhythm Projects brings these pieces together through multiple initiatives that support the art form at different stages:

• Toronto Rhythm Initiative — youth training & mentorship
• Toronto International Tap Dance Festival — global artists & new Canadian work
• Ripple Effect — community outreach & accessible programming
• Creative Impact Forum, Artist Symposium, and Open Floor — projects supporting the broader ecosystem

Each program is designed to strengthen tap dance in Canada while connecting artists, students, and audiences.

The idea for Ripple Effect was actually born back in 2018 - all thanks to Hugh Lawson who asked us some hard questions about our programming and inspired us to reach even further!

Fun fact, Hugh is now on our board and we have so much to thank him - and all of our other board members for. Stay tuned because this is just the beginning of Ripple Effect’s story 🩵

Happy birthday to Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, and happy international Tap Dance Day 💜

This art form is such a gift to us all, and being able to share it, uplift it, and participate in it is truly an honour. Today we celebrate the joy, brilliance, resilience, and innovation that lives within tap dance, while also recognizing and honouring the Black artists and communities who shaped, preserved, and carried this form forward through generations.

We’re endlessly grateful to be students of this art form, and to continue learning from its history, its music, and the people who dedicate their lives to keeping its spirit alive.

Here’s a sneak peek into what we started with back in 2023 during our first in-studio showing 👀

Ripple Effect is our outreach initiative built to create accessible entry points into tap dance for youth and communities who may not otherwise have access to it.

Through free performances, workshops, live music, and audience participation, we bring tap dance into schools, festivals, libraries, and community spaces across the GTA — sharing not just the art form, but its deep cultural roots and connection to jazz music.

Hi 👋🏻 We’re Ripple Effect!

An initiative by Toffan Rhythm Projects designed to engage with underserved communities through workshops, residencies, activations and performances.

As we build, our plan is to return to each location for 3-4 weeks to nurture meaningful engagement, and support for continuing interest beyond our program.
