5 Uses of Velocity-Based Training that you’re probably not using:

1️⃣Olympic weightlifting Specific to Athletic Movements like jumps & acceleration
2️⃣1RM Prediction with Max Power & are you creating Max Power with a High Rate or High Force?
3️⃣For all of you @westsidebarbellofficial lovers love or me is your Dynamic Effort actually Dynamic aka is your intended Quality of Strength being met?
4️⃣Is your Accentuated Eccentric Load actually Accentuated? Or is it too Fast or too Slow?
5️⃣Velocity Loss to maximize Gains and minimize injury (Keep it ⬇️ 25%)

My take on the @vald_performance and @gymaware partnership: @vald_performance is for Athlete Testing & Monitoring to ensure Individual Needs are met and @gymaware to ensure daily intent is met based on the testing and monitoring.

At @risesportsperformance Home of #MashElite we don’t use Olympic Weightlifting because I love those movements. We use them because of the Adaptations they produce.

Read the full article here:

Here’s why Olympic weightlifting is one of the best tools for building explosive athletes. 🧵👇

Exercises are tools.

Adaptations are the goal and Olympic Weightlifting & its derivatives are capable of several.

1⃣ Olympic lifts teach athletes to produce massive force at extremely high velocities.

Power = Force × Velocity or I like to say “Strength x Speed”

Research consistently shows Olympic lifts improve:

✅ Vertical jump
 ✅ Sprint performance
 ✅ Lower-body power

2⃣Olympic Weightlifting is the perfect tool for helping athletes to Apply Force Specific to Athletic Movements:

-in Velocity and Magnitude ( @GymAware ensures this)

-at Specific Joint Angles & ROM (Blocks or from Hang)

-at Specific Contraction Mode (Hang of Concentric Only)

3⃣ Improves Efficiency of Neuromuscular System:
• Timing
 • Coordination
 • Sequencing
 • Rate of force development

4⃣Improves Joint Elasticity

Olympic lifts also improve tendons and Titin Protein Filament.

Better Elasticity means:

• More elastic energy storage
 • Faster force release
 • Better reactive strength
 • Shorter ground contact times

aka That’s Athleticism

5⃣Improves an Athlete’s Ability to Collide.

One benefit coaches overlook...

The catch.

Rapidly decelerating heavy loads teaches athletes to:
• Brace
 • Absorb force
 • Create whole-body stiffness

6⃣Mobility with stability.

Anyone can become flexible.

Elite athletes own those positions while producing and absorbing force.

That’s a completely different skill that transfers to the field and court.

Heavy squats build force.

Plyometrics build reactive ability.

Sprinting teaches force application.

Olympic weightlifting connects them by teaching athletes to express strength at game speed.

Measuring with @gymaware @shredmillspeed & @swiftperformance allows you to track each. taken in RISE Indoor Sports by @risesportsperformance

The question isn’t:
«Are Olympic lifts beneficial for Athletic Performance?”

The better question is:
“What adaptation are you trying to create?”

Latest Article:
.
==> “Benefits of Olympic Weightlifting on Athletic Performance” <Link in Bio>

That’s how we coach at @risesportsperformance Home of Mash Elite Performance.
.
We don’t choose exercises because they’re popular or because we think they’re cool. We choose them because of the physiological adaptations they create.
.
Olympic weightlifting creates the following Adaptations in Athletes:

✅ Power and Rate of Force Development Specific in Velocity to Acceleration, Jumping, and COD.
✅ Express strength aka Force at game speed, magnitude/amount, at Specific Joint Angles, & Contraction Modes.
✅ More Elasticity by Improving tendon stiffness + thickness and reactive ability
✅ More Efficient Neuromuscular System
✅ Absorb force & transfer energy during collisions
✅ Build mobility while maintaining stability
.
The research has shown Olympic lifting improves vertical jump, sprint speed, and power beyond traditional resistance training alone. But the science simply confirms what I’ve watched for over 30 years. @gymaware @swiftperformance and @shredmillspeed make it easy for me to see for myself.
.
When athletes learn to move a barbell explosively and correctly, they don’t just become better weightlifters...
.
They become better athletes.
.
At the end of the day, I don’t coach exercises.

I coach the adaptations that make athletes better.
.
What’s your favorite Olympic lift and why?

For all of my athletes at @risesportsperformance and Online here at #mashelite here are the reasons we use the Olympic lifts:

6 Major Benefits of Weightlifting for Athletic Performance:

1. Maximize Power & Rate of Force Development specific to Acceleration & Jumps
.
2. Improve the Rate & Magnitude of Force at Specific Joint Angles, Contraction Modes, + Velocities.
.
3. Improved Collision Capability from Rapid Deceleration of the Barbell
4. Improves Mobility in the Presence of Stability at all Major Joints.
.
5. Improved Efficiency of the Neuromuscular System (HTMU Improved Synchronization, Improved Coordination Agonists/Antagonists)
.
6. Improved Joint Elasticity from Improved Tendon Stiffness, Greater Cross-Sectional Area, & Overall Increased Stability of the Tendon Matrix due to ⬆️ Collagen Production
.
This is for the people that simply want the information. Tomorrow I will drop my article explaining the science behind the benefits.

☑️Vertical Leaps happen: 2.44-4.23m/s
☑️NFL Running Backs Velocity at line of scrimmage 3.93m/s-4.82m/s
☑️Velocity of NFL Lineman at Line of Scrimmage 2.5-3.5m/s
☑️Elite Sprinters at Step 2: 2.2-3.2m/s and Step 3 are 3.2-4.5m/s
☑️Average Peak Velocity of 75% Snatches 3.1m/s with Athletes clocking 3.2-4+m/s at >Body Weight loads.

Is Olympic Weightlifting beneficial for Athletic Performance? @gymaware makes it easy for me to answer this question.
.
➡️ Vertical Leaps happen: 2.44-4.23m/s
.
* 12 inch=2.44m/s
* 24 inch=3.46m/s
* 36inch=4.23m/
.
➡️NFL Running Backs when they reach line of scrimmage:
* Inside Runs 8.8 miles per hour or 3.93m/s
* Outside Runs 10.8mph or 4.82 Outside
.
➡️NFL Lineman at Line of Scrimmage:
* 5-8mph
* 2.5-3.5m/s
.
Therefore, if Athletes are lifting loads over their body weight at similar velocities, 🤷🏼‍♂️ of course this quality of strength transfers.
.
If you still don’t believe or understand:
.
➡️ <Link in my Bio to Learn More>
.
Plus, I am going to release a short article with a simple explanation and a look at what the research, my experience, and my own dang data says.
.
Last thing, the Olympic lifts can be used specifically in the following other ways besides Velocity:
.
➡️Range of Motion (from the hip, the knee, floor, overhead, and everywhere in between.
.
➡️Contraction Mode (concentric only or with a Stretch-Shortening Cycle
.
➡️Derivatives make it endless especially with @gymaware
.

Here’s the truth some coaches won’t tell you: conditioning without strength is a ceiling, not a foundation. You can have a 4-minute Fran and still miss lifts a weightlifting beginner will make — because nobody really taught you to actually lift.
The Total — Back Squat, Strict Press, Deadlift — isn’t some old-school gimmick. It’s 150 points that expose exactly where your strength breaks down. No barbell cycling to hide behind. No kip to bail you out. Just you, the bar, and whether you can actually move weight.
At MASH ELITE we don’t guess. We assess your positions, fix your press, and build individualized programming that turns “CrossFit strong” into “Weightlifting strong” — the kind of strong that raises your ceiling on everything else.
Stop avoiding the barbell. Start respecting it.

Last weekend I had the honor of hanging out with the @performance_psu aka the Penn State Strength Coaches and Sport Science Team.
.
Yes, I got my obligatory Front Squat in 410lb/186kg at >.4m/s @gymaware so I was happy.
.

I can’t believe I spent the whole weekend teaching these amazing folks about Advanced Velocity Based Training Best Practices in partnership with @gymaware for a half day on Friday  and the @usa_weightlifting Level 1 course Saturday and Sunday.

.
P.S. if you know of a college, pro, or high school staff that would like something similar, DM me here or email me at Travis@RiseIndoorSports.com

Thank you @emilydrew.art for holding down the fort.
.
Let me say this one more thing, not only does @gymaware make the superior products, we all know that, but they invest in me going to a school that already has GymAware everywhere just to help these coaches implement their products.
.
No other company does that. #gymaware
