NEW REEL ALERT 🚨 What a journey it has been 🥹 I’m extremely proud of my growth in the craft and how hard I’ve worked to get to the point of being truly comfortable in my skin! I wouldn’t be at this point without Rising Media Stars, the impeccable LaChina Robinson, and my sisters who pour into, and support me. Most importantly, thank you to God for giving me this talent and being with me every step of the way on this journey 🙏🏾 Now, to all the teams and networks in need of a Host/Reporter, the race to get me starts now! Good luck 😉😂

It’s Giving Tuesday!

Honestly I cringe when I hear people say that mentoring doesn’t work, I’ve seen the results for myself with @risingmediastars. It all depends on your approach, commitment, and dedication as a mentor and mentee. The advice WORKS, using your network to help a young professional WORKS, giving honest feedback WORKS, sharing your life experiences to help someone feel seen WORKS.

Becoming a co-founder of a non-profit is the most rewarding “work” I’ve ever done. I’ve watched our stars thrive as the “only” woman on a sports broadcasting desk, the FIRST pxp on a team NBA broadcast, I’ve seen their commitment to growing women’s sports like softball and volleyball. I cry when I see them on my TV screen because I KNOW their journey. I KNOW the level of dedication and what they have sacrificed, I KNOW that they have had to fight for every inch.

After many conversations with women of all industries, ages, professions, the one common denominator of success was mentoring. Someone had to help you get to where you are. No one person can do it alone and I will die on that hill, we NEED each other.

We are planning a new chapter of Rising Media Stars, one that will help more women. But we need your help to make it happen. Click the link in my bio to donate. #GivingTuesday by @risingmediastars

Today the WNBA Finals will tip and @zorastephenson my mentee, friend, little sister and class of 2019 @risingmediastars will call the game from the PXP seat for NBC!

Zora is a former college hooper who grew up in Oakton, VA (DMV) as a big Mystics fan. Z has worked incredibly hard to get to where she is today and is such a special, generational talent. The PxP is the VOICE of the game & a black woman will be making the big calls on the biggest stage. I’m so proud of you Z, you bring EXCELLENCE to everything you do.

What an incredible accomplishment being realized on your BIRTHDAY!🎉✨Keep shining bright and reaching new heights in all that you do🚀 by @risingmediastars

For 20 years, @lachinarobinson has stayed committed to making women’s sports seen, heard and valued.

When she entered sports media, she was told covering men’s sports would bring more money and recognition. She didn’t listen and stayed committed to women’s basketball anyway—back when press conference rooms often had only a handful of people in them.

Now, those rooms are packed.

Robinson’s work has grown beyond broadcasting. Through Rising Media Stars (@risingmediastars), she mentors women of color pursuing careers in sports media and emphasizes the importance of building relationships beyond the most visible names in the industry.

Through @therisewithlachina, she’s taking that mission even further, using lessons from women’s sports to instill confidence and foster career growth and personal development.

For Robinson, success isn’t about money or fame. It’s about impact, growing women’s basketball and creating space for more diverse voices.

Thank you.

To every mentor, executive, alum, volunteer, and supporter who has poured into this community since the beginning: this day belonged to you as much as it did to us. You built it with us.

Five classes of sisterhood, together in one room.
@swincash @andraya_carter @shanteonakeys @markefree and @nzinga_shaw gave us honesty, perspective, and the kind of advice you cannot get anywhere else. Women who walked through the door and came back to hold it open.

We also honored Jalyn Johnson with the announcement of the Rising Star Award in her name, a tribute that will carry her forward with every woman who receives it.

Five classes deep. We are just getting started.

Today, the Rising Media Stars family honors and celebrates the life of one of our own.

It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude that we remember Jalyn Johnson, a proud member of the Rising Media Stars Class of 2024.

Jalyn embodied the very spirit of Rising Media Stars. She was talented, driven, compassionate and full of joy. Her passion for sports broadcasting, paired with her infectious smile and kind heart, left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. In the time she shared with us, Jalyn inspired others through her authenticity, determination and unwavering spirit.

As we grieve, we also celebrate a life beautifully lived. Jalyn touched countless lives in her 30 years, and her impact will continue to be felt by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of compassion, inspired by her loving family, lives by bringing hope and healing to others, a reflection of the selflessness that defined her life.

We extend our deepest condolences to Jalyn’s mother, siblings, family, friends, colleagues, classmates, mentors, and everyone whose lives she touched. Please join us in keeping them in your thoughts and prayers during this time.

Jalyn will forever be a cherished part of the Rising Media Stars family. We are grateful for the time we shared with her, for the joy she brought into our lives, and for the example she leaves behind.

Rest peacefully, Jalyn. Thank you for sharing your light with us. Your legacy of love, kindness and inspiration will continue to shine brightly.💜
