Things about Worlds I want to remember forever:

It was the first time I’ve been asked to stand on the podium with the non-adaptive lifters. That was really special. SO FUCKING SPECIAL.

@melfastest coming over and hugging me and breathing calm words and thoughts into me before I took the bar.

@coach.andyc being the chillest & best counter and handler and advocate. It’s hard to be nervous when he’s treating it like just another great day at the office.

Adaptive World Champion.
World record snatch.
World record total.
Matched the world record clean and jerk. Missed some lifts too, but that’s showbiz baby.

Two weeks ago, I was in the hospital with a really bad MS flare. My legs stopped working, and my vision wasn’t hanging on either. I didn’t tell many people because I was already in a negative headspace and didn’t want to feed it. I just took it one day at a time and tried to stay as positive as I could. I wanted to self-sabotage and drop out, because there was no way I was going to lift what I’m capable of with legs that weren’t listening to my brain. But I’m adaptive for a reason…right? So some loving people urged me to just show up.

Honestly, I didn’t know what today would look like. I was shocked by the numbers I managed in my garage last week. Today, the goal was longevity and taking care of my body. Walt and I changed the game plan to take fewer jumps so I wouldn’t overexert myself or put more strain on my optic nerve.

My vision went out again after my first jerk. Walt had to help me on and off the platform for my last two clean and jerks. This time we were prepared for it. No tears. No spiraling. I matched the WR after the lights went out and I’m oh so proud of that. I also crushed my cleans, something I was so scared about because of everything.

I’m proud of the records, but I’m even more grateful I got to be out there today. I couldn’t have done it without Walt, who believes in me no matter what and reminds me that even if I bomb out, he’ll still think the world of me. Phew. This was a special one.

AND my adorable and amazing team had shirts made for me, because my blind ass always needs to know where they’re at by playing MARCO/POLO. And the incredible @ecmd2013 added braille puff lettering on the sleeves.

I can’t even begin to describe how happy I am with this meet!! My past few meets have been really hard and have not gone how I wanted them to. Training has been exhausting, and building back up my confidence and strength has taken time. I have worked so hard and I can’t believe it’s finally paying off!! I am the champion of the Virus II Series and it feels amazing to have a 1st place national medal. I have fought through struggles and overcome so much doubt and now I can finally see how much potential I have and how much progress I’ve made. I am so proud of myself and I will continue to get better and better. Thank you so much to my loved ones for supporting me through everything and especially my coach @waltneubauer for being the best coach i’ve ever had!! I will continue to work hard and be proud of how far i’ve come!
