Every birthday comes with a time for reflection, especially birthdays like this. As I step into this new chapter of my life, I feel a sense of clarity and appreciation for what lies ahead. Life is precious and often fleeting, and I recognize that confronting this reality can be intimidating. However, sometimes, we have no choice.

Many women, including myself, often feel pressured to conform to societal expectations based on the stages of life imposed on us and the roles we’re “supposed” to fulfill. But what about those of us who find ourselves outside these categories? I believe every stage of our lives—whether we identify as maidens, wives, mothers, or mature wise women—holds unique beauty and worth.

This birthday, I wanted to reignite the light that I felt had been dimming for some time. Not only do I want to bring it back, but I aim to shine brightly. In this next phase, I am wholeheartedly embracing my dreams—those long-forgotten passions and new aspirations that have emerged along my life journey.

I am committed to nurturing my creativity and goals while prioritizing self-care and surrounding myself with those who love and support me wholeheartedly. This is all about enhancing my health, building a brighter future, and fostering my overall happiness. I am excited about what lies ahead.

Thank you to @jonadress for the incredible experience and photos! ♥️ taken in Paris, France by @rita__veras

People fall for these scams every day, and I don’t want to be part of it. Please make sure you and anyone you know in the query trenches stay alert. I don’t know what the end game is, but it can’t be good.

A haunted house in the Caribbean. A folk tale that won't stay buried. Two women who fall in love in the middle of it all.

If that made your heart jump, you need to know Rita Veras. 🌹

Rita is our COO and an agent with very clear taste: Caribbean everything, gothic stories, LGBTQ+ stories, folklore, romance, thriller, and women's fiction. Bonus points if your book mixes three of them.

It’s that time again! ✨

For this round of accepting queries for Adult and New Adult fiction, here’s what I want more of and what I want to see done differently…

Histories Beyond the Familiar

I want historical fiction that steps outside the usual settings and points of view—cultures and customs we don’t often see on the page—written with enough texture, detail, and voice that I can feel the weather, hear the dialect, taste the food of that world, and feel like I’m standing in the room, living it with the characters, not just reading about them.

Romance, Beyond Will-They-Won’t-They

I’m actively seeking romance from the Latinx, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities across all the sub-genres I represent—historical, suspense, gothic, sapphic. I want narratives that don’t hinge on “will-they-won’t-they,” but on who the characters are—their identities, histories, how they navigate family, culture, self—romance that grows out of that rather than around it. Give me interiority, not just physical chemistry.

Magical Realism and Fantasy, Reimagined

I still want magical realism, alongside fantasy in all its forms—fairy tale retellings, mythic fiction, historical fantasy, epic and high fantasy, cozy fantasy. But I want the magic itself to get more particular. Show me a magic system I haven’t seen before: a genuine range of witches, folk-magic traditions, and cosmologies grounded in specific cultural lineages, not generalized fantasy vocabulary. I want the magic system’s internal logic to be as clear as the story’s emotional logic.

Intrigue, Elsewhere

I still crave thrillers, but I want ones that transport me somewhere entirely different—a different time, a different place, a world so fully realized I’m as caught up in where I am as in what’s unfolding. That’s the thrill I’m chasing.

Women’s Fiction, Literary Fiction, and Book Club Fiction, Character-Led

I’m looking for women’s fiction, literary fiction, and book club fiction that trusts a character to carry the book. Give me quiet reckonings: with family, with a past self, with a community’s expectations, with the relationships that carry a life—especially friendships that show up sideways and become load-bearing. ✨NEW CLIENT ANNOUNCEMENT ✨

We are excited to welcome Piera Isabella to Rosecliff Literary, represented by @rita__veras

Piera Isabella was born in Cuba and raised between Austria and Italy, giving her a rich multicultural background that shapes her writing. She was a finalist in prominent German writing contests for her works Gedankenkarussell and What Is the Earth Like, Ella? Her debut book, Love in Colors (German, 2022; now available in Italian and English), features twelve stories from women addressing themes like patriarchy, endometriosis, and World War II. She has also published a poetry collection, and her latest novel, Como Azúcar y Café, was originally written in Spanish and explores Latinx issues such as exile, immigration, and empowerment. Piera is fluent in five languages and always keeps pen and paper handy, as inspiration strikes unexpectedly. She often reads multiple books simultaneously and creates a playlist for each chapter she writes, reflecting her dedication to her craft. Besides her literary work, she is a passionate advocate for “hidden” disabilities like endometriosis and adenomyosis, raising awareness through her storytelling and public engagement.

“Piera doesn’t just write stories—she builds refuges. Her work has a generosity, a way of making room for readers who need somewhere soft to land. What stays with you isn’t just what happens on the page, but the sense that someone else has walked a similar road and found their way through. Piera has crossed oceans more than once to make her dreams come true, and this time she did it with a community behind her. Meeting her in person at the Latinx Storytellers Conference @lkbfstorytellers confirmed what writing already told me—she’s every bit as charming off the page as she is on it, and exactly the kind of person I want in my family of clients. I’m so proud to advocate for her!” - Rita

✨NEW CLIENT ANNOUNCEMENT ✨

We are excited to welcome Riley Bennett to Rosecliff Literary, represented by @Rita__veras

Riley Bennett is an Italian-Jamaican author whose love stories linger—emotionally grounded, character-driven, and centered on the search for belonging. Born and raised in Canada, she sets her fiction in the landscapes that shaped her, blending slow-burn romance, found family, and small-town warmth with deeper explorations of identity, healing, and the courage it takes to let yourself be known. Her debut turns that lens on family—on what it costs and what it takes to build a life with room for love.

Riley has been reading romance for as long as she can remember (probably longer than she should have), and she’s never looked back. When she isn’t teaching or writing, you can usually find her sipping a maple latte at the nearest bookstore, picking up a paintbrush, or several episodes into a Law & Order: SVU binge. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education and is fluent in three and a half languages.

“Prepare to fall in love with Riley’s stories. She writes dialogue so natural it reads less like prose and more like something you just happened to catch, and she trusts her readers enough to let a joke do the work a big emotional cue would otherwise carry. That same instinct carries into her debut, The Space Between—tender, witty, and devastating in all the right ways, a romance that reminds us that survival and belonging aren’t the same thing and that letting someone in might be the bravest thing you ever do. Riley’s multicultural background is evident in her characters and communities, giving her fiction a warmth that invites readers to slow down and stay a while. As a hopeless romantic seeking diverse characters, I found this story exceeded what I wanted, and I suspect readers will find themselves just as won over as I was.” - Rita
