WHY I CELEBRATE Día de Muertos… Many years ago I had a dream so vivid it still feels real. A woman who was like a second mom to me came to me in my dreams. She said she was ready to fly home. She told me she’d lived a beautiful life and that it was time, and then she asked me to be her voice to tell her family and friends she was happy, at peace, and that they didn’t need to be sad. When I woke up I was crying. The message was so clear that I called her daughter right away, asking if her mom was okay. She told me she’d just seen her and that she was fine. Later that week, she passed. When I spoke at her service, I shared that dream. I told everyone how she came to me and asked me to be her voice. It was one of the hardest and most humbling things I’ve ever done. Even now, I remember every detail, every feeling, like it happened yesterday. That moment changed me. It opened something inside I can’t explain. Since then, it’s happened again and again, almost a dozen times. I’ll feel it, a quiet knowing, before someone passes. Sometimes I even say it out loud, almost as confirmation of what my heart already knows. I used to be afraid of it. I thought it was strange. Even now, I share this with a little fear of judgment because I know how it might sound. But I also know I can’t be the only one. Many of us feel things we can’t explain, moments where love and energy cross between worlds. Now I see it as a gift, a reminder that spirit never dies, it just changes form. Darleen, My sweet soul sister, I am wishing you the happiest birthday. When I saw that we had a few thousand photos together, I wondered how I could possibly choose just a few. Every picture holds a memory, and every memory makes me smile and feel so grateful for the beautiful life we have shared. We have traveled the world together, from Bali and Thailand to Africa, Mexico, and so many places in between. You guided me through teacher training, watched our children grow up, and became grandmas together. We have celebrated the happiest moments, held each other through the hardest ones, helped one another heal, and continued showing up through every joy, loss, change, and challenge. You trusted me with the most important events of your family and business. What we share is rare and unbreakable. We can be completely honest, share our deepest secrets, laugh until we cry, sit together in silence, and always know we are safe and loved. Life has tested us in so many ways, but our friendship has weathered every storm and only grown stronger.
