The Protagonist 🗡

At first, you don’t care about culture. You don’t even know who you truly are or where you belong. But when you arrive in Kenupi Village, you discover a place where people come together in everything they do—from dancing and cooking to hunting and sharing the rhythms of everyday life.

And for how much they honor their culture and ancestors.

Ardi character ref!!!!!! 🐉

Ardi is the kind of friend who cheers you up and makes you laugh when you're bored or feeling down. He's also someone who listens when you're stuck on something, even if he can be a bit noisy sometimes.

He's hardworking and cares a lot about the people around him and his community. He likes keeping things fun and making people laugh, and he’s become such a familiar part of village life that the villagers feel like the village wouldn’t be the same without him. His cheerful and caring nature brings the same sense of warmth and prosperity that is associated with the Lengunan.

Lian character ref~ 🐕

Lian is someone who will never turn her back on you and will always have your back. Her knowledge of village traditions makes her someone others rely on, especially for medicine or injuries sustained during rituals and outings.

She cares deeply for others and protects the village, especially its traditions, reflecting the values associated with the Aso.

Taren character ref!! 🦅

In Kenupi, he's your most reliable companion, someone you'll come to depend on a lot. He's also one of the most important figures in Kenupi Village, as the former village chief's son. He knows a great deal about his village's culture and will be the one to discover you and teach you about the traditions and culture of his people.

His character revolves around humility and a strong sense of care for others, reflecting the traditional Dayak Kenyah values associated with the Temengang.

small terminology update!

Jata -> Lengunan for the Dragon Race!

after further research, i found that Jata/Juata is also used in Dayak Ngaju contexts, especially for Jata Balawang Bulau, a dragon associated with the lower/underwater realm. meanwhile, Lengunan fits Kenupi's Dayak Kenyah context better.

another assignment from last semester cuz i almost never have time to do free drawing anymore 🤲😭

this was a really fun assignment from one of my uni courses about character design!! i learned a lot from this course and honestly had so much fun working on it. we got to explore the whole character design process, and it was really nice being able to just focus on figuring out the character and how i wanted them to look (though with many silhouette revisions from lecturer *coughs)

character design is something i really enjoy, so it was fun getting to spend more time on it instead of just drawing whatever i can squeeze into my free time 🔥
