Hereford River Carnival

‘Bon Voyage to Hereford River Carnival’ 😭

We are sorry to announce that HRC 2025 will not be taking place on Saturday 17th May as planned, and that the organisation is in the process of winding down.

Like many other outdoor events and festivals, we have not been able to stay afloat in the current financial climate. The combination of rising costs and reduced funding has brought the event and, ultimately the organisation to a close. To say we’re sad is
an understatement.

Hereford River Carnival became Hereford’s largest free community event and since it was re-floated in 2014 has brought thousands of people together in celebration around the River Wye.

The event regularly saw over 10,000+ attendees across the street carnival, river procession and the main event on Castle Green Bishops Meadow. It was a platform that provided opportunities for local groups, organisations, local independent businesses, artists, musicians & performers to shine.

Hereford River Carnival also ran programmes and projects throughout the year which supported some of our communities most vulnerable members to participate in free, fun and creative activity.

‘We’d like to thank everyone who has been involved over the years, of which there are too many to name. Your dedication, enthusiasm, creativity & hard work is what made the event so special and unique to Hereford year after year. Hereford River Carnival will feature in tonight's first episode of 'Tales from the Riverbank'

'Tales from the Riverbank with Clare Balding, tells the stories of Britain’s most iconic rivers, looking into the glorious sights and sounds of the river and its inhabitants. From the wildlife that call it home to the folk who live and work on the riverbank, to the many day trippers and pleasure seekers enjoying its waters. Along the way, Clare will stop off at some of its most famous landmarks and attractions as well as sampling plenty of local delicacies'.

HEREFORD RIVER CARNIVAL: OPEN MEETING

Saturday 8th February 2025 1pm-5pm

De Koffie Pot, Bridge Street, HR4 9DG

Hereford River Carnival is holding an open meeting to encourage people to get involved in organising the 2025 event - which is being held on Friday 16th & Saturday 17th May.

The drop-in open meeting will be held upstairs at De Koffie Pot between 1pm-5pm on Saturday 8th February. This will be a chance to meet the team, find out more about what we do and how you, your group, organisation or business can get involved.

‘As a small team of volunteers, we really need support from individuals, organisations and businesses who can help & support to organise things in the run up to this year’s event. Hereford River Carnival is about community, and you are it, so come along and get involved..’ Katrin Cross

Background: Hereford River Carnival is Hereford’s largest free community event and since 2014 has brought thousands of people together in celebration around the River Wye. The event has regularly seen over 10,000+ attenders across the street carnival, river procession and the main event site on Bishops Meadow. It is a platform which provides opportunities for local groups, organisations, local independent businesses, artists, musicians & performers to shine.

Like many community events & organisations we are facing significant challenges in the current financial climate and without the wider support of the community we won’t be able to sustain the event going forward. But we are passionate about keeping things afloat and hope you are too.
