We stitched up these textile tetrahedrons last night—or humbugs, as my textile art friends in the UK call them—and we still have plenty of supplies left if you’d like to have a go at making one.
There’s something so satisfying about watching this three-dimensional little shape come together, turning simple scraps into a curious, lovely object. Fill it with sand or rice, add a drop of essential oil for a sweet-scented sachet, or use it as a handy pattern weight to hold fabric steady while cutting. They can easily be scaled up to larger sizes, too—a doorstop, a playful floor cushion, or whatever else you might dream up.
If your hands are craving that kind of slow, rhythmic making, come sit with us. The River Stitch Guild gathers upstairs at Dharma Bums in New Hope every second Wednesday of the month.
