We’re delighted to see Bold Frontiers take over Dundalk from 9th–11th October, bringing three days of music, art, creativity and unexpected discoveries to venues right across our town.

At Glen Gat House, we’re especially delighted to be looking after a number of the artists involved in this year’s festival. We have a fantastic connection with our friends at The Spirit Store, and it’s wonderful to play our part in welcoming the people who bring Dundalk’s vibrant music and arts scene to life.

From The Spirit Store to Dundalk Gaol, St Nicholas Church and venues throughout the town, there’s something wonderfully different about a festival that celebrates local culture, creativity and community.

Bold Frontiers runs from 9th–11th October.
Best of luck to all the artists, organisers and venues involved. We’re proud to be part of the hospitality that makes Dundalk such a special place to visit.

THE KING OF KEYBOARD IS COMING.

From the Syrian Jazeera to the stages of the world, Rizan Said has spent decades bending the rules of the keyboard until one instrument sounds like an entire wedding band at full tilt.

Born in Ras Al Ain, northeastern Syria, Said became a defining force in Syrian and Kurdish dabke, programming his Korg to sound like zurna, saz, tanbura and buzuq, then pushing those sounds to breakneck horsepower.

For more than two decades, he was the musical architect behind Omar Souleyman, helping create the wild, euphoric sound that took Syrian dabke from wedding parties to dancefloors around the world.

But Said is a force all of his own.

Rowdy keyboards. Heavy rhythms. Maximum velocity.

This isn't background music. This is dabke from the final frontier. Joyful, relentless and built to get the room moving.

Rizan Said is a musical ambassador from Syria's analog era. For generations, the Jazeera — a culturally rich borderland of Kurdish, Arab, Syriac, and Armenian communities — has been alive with a distinctive sonic tradition: hand drums and reed flutes, weddings that lasted days, dabke rooted in a long musical tradition before electro and disco. Rizan was the boy wonder of that scene, a prodigy on percussion and reed instruments who became the region's master synthesist.

His instrument is the factory preset, bent past recognition. Across three decades — first on the cassette circuit that ran through Hassake, Deir Ez Zor, and Qamishli, then on stages from Le Guess Who to Iceland Airwaves — Said has programmed Korgs to emulate zurna, saz, tanbura, and buzuq, collapsing an entire traditional ensemble into a single pair of hands moving at lightning speed. It is the sound that carried Omar Souleyman's voice out of the Jazeera and around the world, and for nearly two decades Said was the one building it, night after night, wedding after wedding.
He recorded prolifically on the Syrian cassette circuit and spent nearly two decades as Omar Souleyman's musical architect.

Ma Waraa Al-Shaabi (@kourecords - nov 2026) is his third solo album, following King of Keyboard (Annihaya, 2015) and Saz Û Dilan (Akuphone, 2019) and his most far-reaching, carrying cosmic, electronic dabke toward its next destination. Recorded at Sundlaugin in May 2026 and produced by Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Panos Cosmatos) with co-production by Mark Gergis (Syrian Cassette Archives, Sublime Frequencies) and engineering and additional production by Úlfur Hansson, the record takes the heat and velocity of the cassette circuit and opens it out into something wider, stranger, and more alive than ever.

The King of Keyboard, Rizan Said, announces a double LP of futuristic electronic dabke and shaabi.

As Omar Souleyman’s longtime musical architect, Said spent nearly two decades turning Korg presets into zurna, saz, tanbura and buzuq, building the sound that carried Souleyman’s voice out of Syria’s Jazeera and around the world, from the cassette circuit through Hassake, Deir Ez Zor and Qamishli to stages like Le Guess Who and Iceland Airwaves. Ma Waraa Al-Shaabi ما وراء الشعبي (Beyond Shaabi) is his third solo album, and his most far-reaching yet. Cosmic, electronic dabke pushed toward its next destination.

The album is also a reunion; the same team behind Omar Souleyman’s iconic 2011 Björk collaborations reconvenes at Sundlaugin, sonic home of @sigurros in Iceland fifteen years later — this time joined by engineer/composer Úlfur Hansson, with Said at the center.

This is Syrian electronic music at its finest.

DABKEH ÉLECTRIQUE ☀️ SYRIE
Sans lui, peut-être pas d’Acid Arab, ni d’Omar Souleyman. Originaire du Nord-Est de la Syrie, Rizan Saïd est celui qui a donné sa place à la Syrie dans l’univers techno depuis les années 1990. Maître incontesté d’une version électronique du dabkeh — danse folklorique du Levant dont le nom signifie « coup de pied » en arabe — il transforme cette tradition en une transe, portée par des rythmes hypnotiques et des mélodies foudroyantes. Compositeur, musicien et producteur visionnaire, ce fabriquant de machines à danser a prouvé à la terre entière que les synthétiseurs pouvaient être considérés autrement qu’un accompagnement douteux ! Rizan Saïd réunit deux continents juste entre ses doigts, avec un toucher d’une rapidité torrentielle et une justesse telle que les sons syriens et kurdes deviennent rapides comme l’éclair !
