We had a chance to catch up with our #futureprofessionals who recently had an opportunity to provide haircutting services at @theelizahopefoundation under the supervision of @niknak_rkafpa

The Eliza Hope Therapy Center is located in Virginia Beach and supports ABA community parents with children ages 2-5, in seeking out a diagnosis or working with already diagnosed children, as providers of various therapies under one roof. Recently they started the Hope Haircuts Event where haircuts are sponsored for children with autism once a month. Appointments can be set so that audio & visual stimuli can be kept to a minimum.

@razorassassinllc shared with us that, “the room was dimly lit & low activity, but sensory support systems were provided for the children. There were even stylists from other locations that came out to volunteer their services. Some children were able to get a full hair cut [it was wonderful] while others were only able to get their hair wet or combed through. The idea was to help them get used to being cared for by others and to introduce them to haircare/grooming. As an experienced Barber, I have a few special needs clients, so it wasn’t my first time. It was easy for me to jump in and do what I needed to do.”

When asked by her ABA provider if interested, “I don’t have my license yet, but I’m on my way to school and if one of our Learning Leaders can- if they’re available, then I’m pretty sure I can. I don’t have any plans and I would love to help!” @hairbyellanguyen is a parent of children with autism who attend the center. An opportunity arose to provide haircutting services and she knew she had to be a part of it. “We showed up and we cut some hair!”

Thank You for having us!

✂️How To Play✂️

1. Future Professionals tag each other by filming each other then taking the camera away from camera person to show their work and tag the next person.
