One thing I’ve learned about building a business is that the ideas you invest in today can shape the way you solve problems years down the road.

Long before I built Innovative Care, I was studying queuing theory: how to manage demand, improve efficiency, and design systems that work at scale. That research eventually influenced how we approached patient access, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I’ve always believed that innovation isn’t just about having a big idea. It’s about understanding the problem, rethinking the process, and building something that works better for the people who depend on it.

You can hear more about how I approached this in the very first episode of my podcast, “The Longevity Lounge.” Just follow the link in my bio!

I think we’ve all been conditioned to believe that if we want to change our bodies, we need to eat less and just have more discipline. But that mindset can leave you feeling exhausted, frustrated, and wondering why your efforts aren’t paying off the way you expected.

When I work with patients, I want us to look at the bigger picture. Are you getting enough protein? Are you maintaining muscle? Are you fueling your body in a way that makes you feel good and helps you stay active?
Your body needs nourishment to function, build strength, and age well. Restricting more isn’t always the answer.

When it comes to longevity and living a longer, stronger life, I want my patients to build a body that serves them for the long haul, not one that chases the smallest number on the scale.

Spooky season is the perfect time to let a few things go. And outdated health advice? It can stay buried!

The problem with health myths is that they keep us from asking better questions, looking deeper, and taking a more proactive approach to our health.

My philosophy? Stay curious, challenge what you think you know, and don’t settle for “that’s just how it is.”
This Halloween, let’s ghost the misinformation and make room for smarter, more personalized healthcare.

Which health myth are you ready to leave behind? 👻 Comment below!

This week at Innovative Vitality… friendships were tested, egos were bruised, and compliments were given.

Nothing brings a team closer together quite like finding out what your coworkers really think of you. And the nervous laughter? Telling. 👀

At the end of the day, there’s one thing everyone can agree on: we love our team, even when they keep us humble.

Testosterone levels can tell us a lot, but the timing of your bloodwork matters more than you might think.

When evaluating natural testosterone levels, I generally recommend testing in the morning, when levels are typically at their highest. Testing later in the afternoon could give you a very different number, which is why timing matters when interpreting your results.

For men already on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), the approach is a little different. What matters is understanding your treatment protocol and timing your labs appropriately so we can interpret the results in context.

As @‌marons.do and I discuss, hormone testing isn’t just about getting a number on a lab report. It’s about understanding what that number actually tells us about you and making informed decisions from there.

I think a lot of us are really good at showing up for other people, but not always as good at showing up for ourselves.

We make time for work, family, responsibilities, and the people who depend on us. And somewhere in the middle of all that, our own health can become the thing we keep pushing to next week.

But here’s something I want people to understand: taking care of your health isn’t separate from taking care of the people you love. When you manage your stress, stay active, and keep up with preventive care, you’re investing in your ability to be present for the long haul.

As a physician, I don’t want people to wait until something is wrong to start paying attention to their health. You deserve that same level of care and attention you give everyone else.

Because the goal isn’t just to be there for the people you love today. It’s to give yourself the best chance of being there for years to come.

When we talk about building muscle, the conversation often focuses on how we look or how much we can lift. But I think we need to talk more about what muscle allows us to do as we get older.

I want my patients to think about their 70s, 80s, and 90s, not with fear, but with a plan. Do you want to carry your own suitcase? Get up off the floor without help? Catch a bus when you’re running late? Travel, explore, and move through life on your own terms?

Those things depend, in part, on the strength and muscle you build and maintain decades earlier.

Muscle is more than an aesthetic goal. It plays an important role in resilience, recovery from illness, and maintaining independence as we age. When we lose too much muscle and strength, even everyday tasks can become harder, and our overall health can become more vulnerable.

So next time you’re strength training, remember: you’re not just training for today. You’re building the strength to live life on your own terms for decades to come.

We get deeper into this conversation on my podcast “The Longevity Lounge.” Listen or watch via the link in my bio now!

One thing I’ve learned working in medicine is that we tend to underestimate the everyday choices we make about our health.

We spend a lot of time looking for the big breakthrough, the newest treatment, the perfect routine, or the one thing that’s going to change everything. But when I think about longevity, I come back to the fundamentals. Are you getting enough sleep? Are you building and maintaining muscle? Are you eating in a way that supports your body? Are you making time to manage stress?

These things might not feel significant in the moment, but over months and years, they can have a real impact on how you feel, function, and age.

You don’t need to overhaul your life overnight. Start with what’s realistic, build from there, and focus on what you can sustain. That’s how we move beyond simply living longer and start thinking about how we want to live.

A lot of people assume growth in healthcare comes from chasing trends or opening locations as fast as possible. For me, it’s always been much simpler than that: listen to patients and pay attention to what they actually need.

Our first clinic was an urgent care, and even today it still acts as the foundation for everything we build. Over time, we started noticing patterns, more patients asking about stress, burnout, anxiety, recovery, preventative care, and those conversations helped shape the next phase of growth.

Every new venture started simply by identifying a real need and then building around it with intention.

You can look fit, have a low body fat percentage, and still have underlying metabolic issues. That’s why I always emphasize looking beyond the number on the scale.

Muscle plays a much bigger role in metabolic health than many people realize. It helps your body manage blood glucose, and having less muscle can affect how efficiently your body clears glucose from your bloodstream.

This is also why looking at just one metric doesn’t always tell the full story. Your body composition, A1C, and other metabolic markers can provide important pieces of the puzzle that you might otherwise miss.

The takeaway? How you look on the outside doesn’t always reflect what’s happening on the inside. Building and maintaining muscle is about so much more than appearance. It’s an important part of supporting your health and longevity.

The only thing worse than Knotty Pine? A provider who doesn’t listen to your needs.

Thankfully, health horror stories don’t exist at Innovative Vitality.

We believe your health deserves more than rushed appointments and generic advice. You deserve a provider who listens, asks questions, looks deeper, and works with you to create a plan that fits YOUR goals.

Because you deserve a coven-level commitment to your health, and we’re kind of like the Supreme.😉

One of the biggest mistakes we can make in medicine is assuming that what works for one patient will work for everyone else.

Research and clinical guidelines give us an incredibly important foundation, but treating a patient requires looking at the bigger picture. Their medical history, symptoms, lifestyle, risk factors, and goals all matter.

That’s why I believe asking better questions and taking the time to understand the person in front of you can be just as important as knowing the latest research.

The goal isn’t simply to follow the textbook. It’s to use what we know to make the best possible decisions for each patient.
