Thirty years ago Gene Hackman delivered to the screen a fantastic character in the film La Cage aux Folles - Mike Nichols directed Elaine May’s screenplay adaptation of the 1978 French film, itself an adaptation of a 1973 play. It stars Robin Williams and Nathan Lane as a couple whose son (Dan Futterman) is set to marry the daughter (Calista Flockhart) of a conservative senator (Gene Hackman) and his wife (Dianne Wiest). It’s a loving and generous tale of mature love - from a clutch of creative legends. ❤️ #genehackman #mikenichols #elainemay #lacageauxfolles #robinwilliams #nathanlane #diannewiest #calistaflockhart #danfutterman by @rkpworks

Throughout Goa are an array of white lime washed small and large Catholic Churches - some 500 years old. Strangely they are not at odds with the creation of effigies of Narakasura which are created the day before Diwali - Naraksaura was slain by Krishna for his ill-treatment of women. The effigies are burnt on the morning of Diwali, representing being rid of evil and darkness and preparing for the light, joy and good wishes that Diwali brings in the evening. Coincidently the same day /evening as Halloween. #goa #diwali #narakasura #portuguesa #krishna #halloween taken in Goa by @rkpworks

Congratulations to the ever brilliant Barrie Kosky for being awarded at the weekend with Best Director at the International Opera Awards in Poland for productions including an acclaimed Dialogues of the Carmelites @glyndebourne and a Ring Cycle (Das Rheingold) at Covent Garden - experienced in Australia thanks to @palacecinemas. BK’s latest production Chicago @komischeoperberlin was sold out before opening! His vision is always insightful, emotionally exquisite and a feast for the eyes! If you haven’t yet seen one of his productions find a date and get to the next BK production wherever in the world it is! In Oz it’s @adelaidefestival 2024 for The Threepenny Opera.
Blessings on blessings to you BK….thank you for the most memorable nights in the theatre!

So much to admire in the simple exquisite vibrancy of culture in the women, the churches and traditional rituals and clothing from San Cristobal de las Casas & the autonomous village of Zinacantan in Chiapas. The Tzotzil from Zinacantan believe that we all have an animal spirit guide with us in life. #indigenouswomen #mayan #tzotzil #llama #backstrapweaving #zinacantan #chiapas #sancristobal #mexico #iglesiadesanlorenzo #ladyofguadalupe taken in San Cristóbal De Las Casas Pueblo Mágico by @rkpworks
