Top hand explanation:
Every swing has different top-hand variations, but the goal is simple—teach each hand what its job is. Some hitters are top-hand dominant, others are bottom-hand dominant, and that’s perfectly fine. More good coaches need to speak up about this. We all know, if we’ve played at a high level, that for kids who want to get to the next level, development is key, and intentional training is a must.

No, I’m not talking about the kids who are the 1% of players who already train with intention daily and need to play in competitive environments to test their skills.

Coaches have said it for years, the good ones at least. Games are tests of your training. They show us what we need to work on, what we can learn from game play, and so forth.

I’m talking about the athletes who are undersized and haven’t grown yet. The kids who have the heart and passion for the sport but just aren’t there yet, even though they could be with intentional training.

I played in Ohio, where we couldn’t be outside for six months of the year and had to train or play multiple sports. And I made it.

I was undersized, scared of the weight room, but loved the game and wanted to be the best. I used people’s words as motivation and kept grinding through a bunch of no’s and failures.
