The evening of music will take place at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in the Highlands (a multitude of thanks to @jaredepp with Bleeding Heart Art Space for making this all a reality!). Excited to record with this group next year! I’ve been making regular trips back to Alberta building connections with musicians in my home province which has culminated into this group of amazing improvisers.

@rmde_jong @mustafarafiqq @jairussharif and myself with be in residence at National Music Center creating with their unique instrument library and documenting it all. Thank you NMC for providing the opportunity

The second video is a crazy chinook that broke the -30C streak when I was there in February performing with this group for New Music Edmonton.

When I left Alberta for school I wasn’t sure how often I’d come back but more and more I find myself homesick and longing to be back and spending time with friends and finding comfort in nostalgia . I’m glad that these musicians want to collaborate so we can share this special scene with more people. I’ll be sharing more of this project in the coming year!! by @rmde_jong

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a night of improvised music! Internationally acclaimed guitarist and visual artist Jessica Ackerley returns to their hometown to work with an incredible group – Jairus Sharif from Calgary, and local favourites Mustafa Rafiq, and Ron De Jong. Their two-part set will begin with a solo guitar performance by Jessica Ackerley, followed by a group improvisation for quartet. Inspired by travels in the High Arctic, as well as the incredible natural environment of this province, the group will create something extremely special.

NME is also pleased to present a special guest for the evening, Jared Epp. Quickly becoming a key part of the experimental scene here as performer and presenter, Jared Epp is also a filmmaker, visual artist, and anthropology scholar. For this performance, he will premiere the first iteration of aggressive relaxation music, in which drones, noise, feedback and ambience, experienced like being under a waterfall!

For tickets or more information on the program and the artists, head to the link through our bio~
