Excited to record with this group next year! I’ve been making regular trips back to Alberta building connections with musicians in my home province which has culminated into this group of amazing improvisers. @rmde_jong @mustafarafiqq @jairussharif and myself with be in residence at National Music Center creating with their unique instrument library and documenting it all. Thank you NMC for providing the opportunity The second video is a crazy chinook that broke the -30C streak when I was there in February performing with this group for New Music Edmonton. When I left Alberta for school I wasn’t sure how often I’d come back but more and more I find myself homesick and longing to be back and spending time with friends and finding comfort in nostalgia . I’m glad that these musicians want to collaborate so we can share this special scene with more people. I’ll be sharing more of this project in the coming year!!

Winter photos on my Samsung L200- it’s interesting experiencing this season in both Hawai’i and Canada back to back. In January Mike and me hiked to the north West Point on O’ahu every weekend to see the humpback whales and nesting albatross. And in February I was thrown into -30oC wind chills and snow storms. I did get to connect with a bunch of college friends, play some fun gigs, as well as present workshops with the amazing students at U of A Macewan U of C and Dalhousie. I also ate way too much A&W. I hope to keep coming back to Canada and look forward to the next one. It was exhilarating to experience a real winter again!! I also look forward to the next whale season now that I know the time of day they are close to shore.
