We are excited to announce our 2026 Writer of the Year!

Andrea Catalano has been pursuing her dream of becoming a novelist ever since fourth grade, when she fell in love with Little Women. A Boston-area native, she received her B.A. in History from Suffolk University. She went on to receive a MPhil in Historical Studies from University of Cambridge, UK, with her dissertation titled, Seeking and Following the Indentured Servant in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, 1630 – 1700.

She has worked in various jobs and side hustles to support her writing dreams, including middle school history teacher, substitute high school teacher, online content editor, bar tender, Outward Bound admissions advisor, and a perfumer’s apprentice, all while continuing to develop her writing craft. While living in Denver for nine years, she was an active member of Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, specifically the amazing Southwest Denver Critique Group. She has served as a volunteer as well as a faculty member at many Colorado Gold Conferences, and has continued to attend the conference as much as possible, despite moving out of state.

Andrea’s debut historical Fiction Novel, The First Witch of Boston, released in September 2025 from Lake Union Publishing. Based on Margaret Jones, the first woman executed for witchcraft in Massachusetts in 1648, the novel became an Amazon Bestseller, and placed third in the 2025 Goodreads Choice Awards in Historical Fiction. Her second novel, The Lacemaker’s Fortune, also from Lake Union, published March 2026, an instant Amazon bestseller. Set in 1879, it is the story of an Irish immigrant in New York City who follows her dreams and desires to the mining boomtown of Leadville, CO. Andrea’s next novel will arrive in fall of 2027 from Lake Union, the story of one of George Washington’s female spies.

When not writing or researching, Andrea enjoys reading, cooking elaborate meals, knitting, traveling, supporting live music, and reveling in all things Star Wars related. She lives in Houston, TX with her husband, two children, two fluffy cats, and many, many books. by @rmfwriters

New from Christy Matheson, Author @christy_matheson_author ! The Domestic Diplomat

She knew her new husband was keeping secrets…but she had no idea how many.

Turned out…neither did he.

Newly married Celia is shocked to arrive at a crumbling Elizabethan estate with 21 bedrooms, parlors filled with taxidermy…and an aunt. How could Peter forget to mention an entire person—and does it mean that Celia and her cousin will be abandoned among the broken crockery too?

Peter Alcott made a series of increasingly desperate decisions to protect his young brother and sister from a fate worse than death. Thirteen years later, he’s come home to the wild, windswept land of his birth, and this time, he’s going to do do everything right—if he can unravel the tangle of secrets that his family has spent three generations building.

After a disastrous first week, with a houseguest making accusations and the locals turning against Irish-born Celia and their mixed-race household, Celia is delighted by the rumor that Peter planned to stand for Parliament—while Peter is reeling from the threat of annulment from his beloved bride.

With his father’s demands looming and the memories in Avonleagh Manor becoming too loud for Peter to bear, Peter has an accident that smashes the fragile safety protecting their entire family. Celia buries her own anger to help him heal. But while Peter and Celia struggle to find connection, political questions cleave their family apart—and the Alcott family secrets turn deadly.

Tropes you'll enjoy:
* Romance within marriage
* Wild & scenic setting with house as a character
* Wounded hero & generational trauma
* Inclusive: queer, racial, and disability rep
* House parties & political intrigue
* Protective hero with “touch her & die” energy
* Found family
* Secret identity
* Kidnapping
* Slow-burn romance that ignites, and an ending that is more than a sugar rush! by @rmfwriters

How do you escape…
…when they know everything?

Hard partying. Morally bankrupt. Few redeeming qualities. Jax Landry frequently numbs the pain of a broken existence under the shelter of drugs and booze. But this night—this particular night—would be like no other when he finds himself confined to a circumstance of unimaginable hell after awakening from a familiar drunken coma.

Abducted and trapped inside a diabolical mansion, the house forces Jax to face his own personal demons and experience mental torment that no person should have to endure. His warped and demented captors, always one step ahead, exploit every sordid detail from his past, like the death of his girlfriend, or his grade school humiliation, or the child he had all but abandoned. Desperate to escape, everything Jax encounters in the twisted maze is freakish. Chaotic. Impossible. Each wretched being and every horrifying encounter is meant to shatter his internal spirit and force him into choosing a most unwinnable fate. by @rmfwriters

Three books. Two worlds on the brink of war. One reluctant heroine caught in the crossfire.

Binge this urban fantasy series-starter collection today.

Alex Blackwood grew up hating magic. It took her father in the Faerie Wars, nearly tore the world apart, and now—it’s coming for her.

When Alex’s best friend is murdered, his final cryptic message drags her into a shadowy underworld where criminals deal in magic artifacts, a relentless faerie knight pursues a hidden agenda, and conspirators threaten to reignite the bloody war between humans and the fae.

But the deadliest secret of all lies within Alex herself: She isn’t fully human.

As an unregistered fae "halfer" with a rare, dangerous talent, Alex is thrust into the center of a supernatural cold war. Called a “freak” by humans and an “abomination” by the fae, she must navigate a treacherous game of shadowy murders, lethal family ties, and bigotry from all sides.

One wrong move could cost Alex her friends, her freedom, and her life. But the very heritage that makes her an outcast may be the only power capable of forging her fractured world back together.

Can a woman divided heal a broken world?

A sweeping contemporary fantasy filled with lethal fae court politics, dangerous secrets, and a fierce heroine who refuses to back down, The Magicsmith series is perfect for fans of Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, and Seanan McGuire. Binge the first three books of this epic journey of transformation at a special box-set price.

This action-packed collection includes:

  A Drop of Magic (Book 1)
 Courting Darkness (Book 2)
 Faerie Forged (Book 3) by @rmfwriters

I gave a big ass speech at RMFW 2026. I didn’t get booed off stage. Many seemed entertained. Writers gave me their books and said my accent reminded them of various elder relatives back in MA 😆. Saw lots of friends. Heard the amazing Stephen Graham Jones speak and blushed when he said he liked my dress 🤭. Saw my NEW AGENCY SISTER, @joyjarrettmeredith, shot the shit with @kevinwolf109. It was a lovely time 🥰 @rmfwriters by @rmfwriters
