Come on by next week for the publication launch of ‘A Glossary of Boredom’ by Master of Photography students!

‘A Glossary of Boredom’ explores boredom as a familiar and sometimes uncomfortable experience. Bringing together photography, drawing, and text, this publication aims to expand and trouble what boredom might mean as it is encountered through waiting, repetition, routine, work and in the moments when attention, now a commodity, begins to drift or sharpen. Acknowledging that boredom is not one thing, the contributions ask what knowledge might be generated through critiquing the coded visual language of office stock photography, waiting to see a doctor, travelling long-distances on a slow train, or paying attention to a garden.

Join us for refreshments and a look through the publication.

Congratulations to RMIT Photography Honours student Stav Lampropoulou on her solo exhibition which finished today, The Wandering Womb and Other Myths, held at First Site Gallery.

In the exhibition Lampropoulou works with the archive; incorporating ancient medical fictions and religious texts as evidence, showing how women have been pathologised throughout history.

Look out for more of Stav’s work at our upcoming RMIT School of Art Graduate exhibition, opening on 24th November, 2026. @rmit_art

Brilliant work Stav! @stav.lam 👏👏👏

Congratulations to Bachelor of Photography student, Huiyi Xiao for winning the prestigious Churchie Emerging Art Prize for her work ‘The Fire That Wouldn’t Call Itself Ash’!

This incredibly moving work utilises film, poetic storytelling and movement to explore Huiyi's experience migrating to Australia.

We were lucky to have @paulroverefoto, Deputy Picture Editor at The Age, and Walkley Award-winning photojournalist @cnhop speak to our students this week. It was great to hear two industry professionals talk about what life on the job really looks like – from the pace of daily news to longer-term projects. Big thanks to Paul and Chris for their time and expertise. by @rmitphoto

Opening next week: Correspondences proposes a dialogical exchange between bodies and land, through the work of eight lens-based artists who each engage with ideas of place and space.

Opening reception: Friday 1 May, 2026

Today we introduce four of the artists involved:

Katrin Koenning, from Helen (On the Road), 2009
Jesse Boylan, Lake Hume, Table Top, NSW, 2023
Rebecca Najdowski, detail from Another Nature (Warm Data) 2026
Christine McFetridge, Basalt Study 2024

–
Katrin Koenning is a visual artist from Bochum-Langendreer (in the German Ruhrgebiet). Her work travels across still and moving images and text, at times including found materials, painting and collage. Pursuing intimacy and interconnection her work centres around practice as relational encounter. Most stories evolve through years and use returning as a way of drawing closer.

Jesse Boylan is an artist, researcher, and educator who lives on Dja Dja Wurrung Country in Central Victoria, Australia. Their practice spans photography, video, and sound, exploring nuclear legacies and slow violence through expanded documentary practice and site-based research. They are interested in transdisciplinary processes and often collaborates with other artists, scientists, and people across a variety of community sectors.

Rebecca Najdowski (b. Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA) is an American/Australian artist whose work examines imaging technologies, the mediation of nature, and visualizations of the climate emergency. Rebecca engages with the material and political implications of representing nature through photographic technologies. Using analog and digital materials — often counter to their intended use — her artworks offer alternative modes to habitual ways of seeing, and sensing, more-than-human nature.

Christine McFetridge is a settler New Zealander based on unceded Wadawurrung Country. She is a photographer, researcher and writer represented by M.33, Melbourne, and a doctoral researcher in the AEGIS research network.
