Raised in the same neighborhood where she now works, Brenda Saechao brings a deep understanding of the community to her work with Roosevelt Middle School students, families and staff.

Happy Community School Managers Week to Brenda and all of our incredible CSMs!

Learn more about Brenda from what her colleagues have to say:

"In her role as a CSM at Roosevelt, Ms. Brenda is able to give back to the San Antonio neighborhood where she grew up. She is one of OUSD's most veteran CSMs and her many years of service have made her deeply loved and respected across the Roosevelt community and beyond. Brenda pours her heart into connecting with the school's Bulldog Pups and linking them to the resources they need to become their best selves. As she puts it, "The work brings me joy!"—and she signs every email "In community with care," a phrase that captures exactly how she shows up. That care is matched by results: Brenda leans into attendance work from day one, building strong Tier 1 practices and running regular attendance challenges with joyful celebrations for students building great habits.

Ms. Brenda leads the site CHKS work each year and leans in deep to ensure that everyone in her school community is able to provide feedback on climate and culture. She understands how important school connectedness is for creating a school environment that feels safe for all." by @rms_oak

Earlier this year, middle school students from @rms_oak had the opportunity to visit @hiddenvilla in Santa Clara County.

Nestled at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Hidden Villa’s 1,600-acre working farm and educational space offered students a chance to slow down, explore, and connect with each other and the natural world in new ways. Throughout the trip, students hiked the surrounding trails, challenged themselves on the ropes course, met farm animals, sampled fresh veggies and herbs from the edible garden, and experienced the beauty and calm of the environment around them.

Thank you to Hidden Villa for being such an important partner in helping Oakland youth access transformative outdoor learning opportunities!

They say early 🐦 gets the 🪱. Got up at 4:30 this morning to ensure our Roosevelt team was able to set up the 1st rest stop for this year's Ride-4-A-Reason fundraiser.

Why so early? Because I needed to get all my cubs up to help me pack the car with our rest stop materials and supplies. This was Ellie's 2nd year helping and extremely grateful Russ and Ben joined us in volunteering this morning.

Such a rewarding experience from start to finish. Watching the team lend a hand to get all set up in time to welcome our first riders to cheering and wishing our riders a safe ride to Sacramento and breaking down our rest stop at Balestrieri Farm Farm in Briones, CA.

Too bad we didn't get a group photo this year but wouldn't have been possible without Principal Solomon, Ms. Padua, Ms. Allison, Ms. Denise, Mr. Munzel, Aaliyah, Russ, Ben and Elles. Until need year! by @rms_oak

WEEK 8 RESULTS 🚨

We pulled up to Roosevelt this week and the energy did not disappoint 💥

🔥 MVP: Khair
Set a new district record for a 1 person team 🤯 and then jumped on TWO more relay teams after that…next level.

⚡️ No change to the overall leaderboard this week, but trust…some FAST times were dropped.

⏳ Only TWO WEEKS LEFT until we crown who really runs the district 👑

👀 Been having fun on the rowing machine?
If you’ve caught the rowing hype, make sure to join us for a Learn to Row session on the water on May 9 from 10:30 - 1pm. Check the link in our bio!

Roosevelt Middle School's music and teaching icon is retiring after a 40-year career that spanned 5 decades in OUSD.

Check out @kqed and its coverage of Bulldog music teacher Randy Porter, who started as a substitute teacher in the district back in the 1980s.

Marking period: Done. ✅
Bulldog Festival: Elite. 🐾

Roosevelt Middle School students cashed in their hard-earned Bulldog Bucks for snacks and toys, while the yard was packed with everything from tug-o-war to Lunar New Year crafts to impromptu staff karaoke to soccer and more.

We love seeing the Bulldogs celebrate together. Let’s keep that momentum going. 💜
