Stepping into the energy of slow burn creation by manifesting with the creatrix of my womb. Womb-mens bodies are not only restricted to the function of birthing babies, they also birth realities. I got sectioned after releasing what I no longer wanted / needed with menstrual blood magic. As time has passed I believe I had to embody the cycles of destruction in order to rise and now I’m seeing very noticeable shifts in my life. Very Kali-ma energies. My time inside was one of deep reflection and my reemergence into the world was like a metaphorical birth. I emerged with so much clarity. It reminds me of a repeating rhetoric my mum would always utter in Wolof whilst I was growing up and still to this day, that sometimes it looks like God is destroying life when it’s actually being fixed. The space is being cleared for organic creation and though I feel I may spend this entire year releasing, I am excited for this next chapter! 🧿 by @rmzia.j

Polaroids X3 This is Ramzia Jawara beneath the Aliases. I have many but at the end of the day here she is. The Aliases are not masks, ironically they allow me to unmask but here I am bare, unmasked and in that same vain today I write without a mask. I’ve been exploring pathways to understanding reconstruction of identity and belonging after religious trauma and migration related dislocation. Many years have been spent integrating a transcendental homelessness affiliated with the diasporic experience. A felt sense of othering and shame through racist ideologies, colourism, religious abuse and generational colonial indoctrination to name a few. While scholarship has increasingly recognised the positive psychological and social effects of religious and spiritual communities, research on religious trauma has emerged primarily from Western evangelical and Mormon context. I see a lot of information regarding diasporic identities on migration, belonging, race and cultural identity yet rarely is religious harm, spiritual rupture and their implications for embodied identity formation theorised within the context of West African diasporic identities. I am interested in processes of embodied regulation and spiritual reorientation. I’m drawn to this area of study 📖 by @rmzia.j
From the second half of ‘Grandmother’s Spirit’. When this was shot, I was navigating a heightened state and during these moments of disconnection what came out of me was a desire for self regulation through touch. Something I don’t feel is spoken about enough. I went to teach doctoral psychology students about heightened states and left with a feeling that our experiences are boxed into a pathology which didn’t really feel resonant with my experience. It left me questioning whether I’d truly been experiencing psychosis or whether their syllabus was based on one type of person without regard for the rest. Most likely the white male. There was no mention of returning to the body as antidote which has been key to my journey of self regulation and healing. I hope that this piece may destigmatise to some what these states can look and feel like. Gongs by Calina @somaandsounds by @rmzia.j
