On the 2nd part of our van trip we hit Aspen, Cascade ID, Tahoe and Big pine. First time at Cascade and it was impressive: mtb and gravel routes, river park for kayak, sup or surf and lake paddling, for sure gonna get back there for a longer period. Finished off with a night at Big Pine Creek campground and a hike up to the big pine lakes by @roachfree

Finally got around to seeing a few national parks: Zion, Arches, Capitol Reef. A little warm and windy but not to bad and we stayed out of the way of the fires and most of the smoke except for Fruita one night. Then a few days in steamboat, and Lyons CO. Will hang in Boulder for a few days and get some rides in then off to Aspen and park city next. We are digging the van by @roachfree

Huge thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes!!! It’s been a challenging 6 months as of today since OHS but I am on the mend and getting back to some normalcy. Hey everyone, wanted to thank everyone for the support the last two weeks. I had open heart surgery to repair my aorta and aortic valve and wanted to give a quick update. July 29th I had a ct angiogram as I had a very high calcium score. While the ct showed my arteries were fine (99% hard plaque) it showed I had a dilated aorta at 5.0cm, normal is 2-3cm. We were on a long van trip so when I got home had an echocardiogram and it showed that the aorta had expanded to 5.8cm as well the aortic valve had moderate regurgitation. Anything over 5.5 requires surgical repair or the risk of rupture. I had the surgery on October 24. Surgery went very good and the doc said that area of my aorta was paper thin. I spent 5 days recovering in the hospital and then home the last 10 days. Slow recovery over the next several months the hope to back to somewhat normal in 6-12 months. I had several friends go through this surgery the last two years and coincidentally we were all triathletes and did a lot of training and racing over the years…Scott Tinley, John Duke and Dave Scott. While there is no correlation at this time between this problem and athletes, a simple echocardiogram could save your life as this is fixable., it saved mine. Take the time to discuss with your doc and don’t take no for answer…I ended up paying for my first test and that was the best money I ever spent.

Team Fuhrious van trip 25 day 36-42-
- Vancouver to Vancouver island (Nanaimo and tofino) to Port Angeles WA to Long Beach WA to Salem OR to Encinitas. Great to catch up with Evan Taylor in whistler before heading to the island, looking forward to some skiing in whistler this winter. A lot of smoke in the air while on the ferry over to Nanaimo but always a great boat ride. Good to catch up with Norm, Wendy and Stefan in Nanaimo, get a great hike up Mt Benson and check out their Frontrunners store. Then spent a few days in tofino. Small surf and cold water so opted for a short paddle at Cox bay and a ride on the bike path. Headed home via the ferry to Port Angeles, through Washington with a stop at Long Beach and a drive on the beach. Had to detour over to Salem to get some repairs to the van and instead of hanging out for several days and waiting rented a car and booked it home and will head back up in a week or so and finish the drive down the Oregon and California coast. Longest road trip for our lives…was a great trip and looking forward to more but 4 weeks is about our limit 🤙 by @roachfree
