Closed out our summer run at Dorothea Pocket Park with a little HEART WORK by @brycedetroit 🥹🫶✨

So grateful to the @cityofberkley + @degcallbusiness + @bombshelltreatbar for bringing this collaboration to life. We truly had such a blast making new memories (and eating delicious ice cream 😋) this summer!

Having Bryce’s @roadworkahead7 sign there was the perfect way to amplify the experience. He is such a special human with an incredible vision, and his work is such a beautiful reminder of what happens when art, community + heart come together. 🧡

Go see his work. Support it. BUY it. Bring him into your spaces + events for a pop-up. This is the kind of artist + work we want to see continue growing in the world!

You can currently experience (and purchase!) his work at @irwinhousedetroit in Detroit. ✨

Question: What if traffic signs do more than regulate vehicular movement?

“The Black Codes” reframes traffic management iconography as cultural-economic mobility infrastructure, exploring how visual systems organize movement, govern behavior, and structure economic life. #blackaugust #theblackcodes #roadwork #fineart by @roadworkahead7

Until we hear definitively (on the record) from @cityofdetroit city council + @mayormarysheffield that any plan to sell/privatize our #belleisle will always be denied, and an assurance that the Isle will remain as a park- accessible for ALL Detroiters (as folks have been experiencing it since the Coleman Young Era), then Bryce is fasho keeping this conversation going. #isleclosedtogentrifiers #detroit #roadwork

Whatupdoe family! Am touching base with this follow-up to my own active conversation regarding #BelleIsle remaining in the commons. There is an active threat against its future, let us not be naive about that. This is me simply reinforcing that the threat is real and the deceptive narrative campaign framing the “proposal to privatize” is actually in motion.

As seriously as we take our love, connection, and our access to Belle Isle, we should also take any idea (especially a published one that’s getting increasing media promotion) of it being taken away.
——
The overwhelming majority of Us [native + indigenous Detroiters] are vehemently opposed any idea to to privatize our sacred land. We must continue to make that very clear, loud and undeniable AF.
——
PS- @local4news @blackenterprise , there is no “majority of Detroit” that wants that fugazzi privatized 💩. If yall were paid to post that misleading-ass article, just say that.

We are the Power, always have been and always will be.

It should go without saying, yet clearly it needs to be said, “BELLE ISLE CLOSED TO GENTRIFIERS”.
——
Only a person/people with no spiritual and/or indigenous connection to our land, legacy, and natural resources would propose gentrifying Belle Isle.

Only a person/people with an active disconnect with and utter disregard for nature as a sacred sentient ecosystem, that’s divinely a part of the Commons, would diabolically propose desecrating our land by privatizing Belle Isle.
——
Indigenous [Native] Detroiters- This is a moment to channel our righteous outrage strategically and politically. In order to build the 21st Century Detroit we want our future generations to inherit, we must secure the Detroit that we remember + hold as sacred, now.
——
Regardless to the news reports stating ‘this is only a proposal’, if it’s in the news then ‘it’s up’. That proposal is not just “an idea”, it’s a signal, it’s a PR campaign, and should be perceived as a threat. #hoodclosedtogentrifiers #isleclosedtogentrifiers #detroit #legacy #nature

PS- @belleisleconservancy @mayormarysheffield @cityofdetroit am looking at you all. What side of this issue are you on? What will you do to ensure Belle Isle is kept as the Commons? 👀🤔 taken in Belle Isle Park by @roadworkahead7
