Mark your calendars! The Roaring Fork Fishing Guide Alliance will be hosting a Carbondale Boat Ramp Clean Up on Sunday, October 18th @ 9am.

The Guide Alliance will provide a dumpster and trash bags. Those planning to attend, please plan on bringing gloves, eye protection, masks, etc. In addition, those in attendance will receive a raffle entry to win a 10’ 4wt Orvis Clearwater fly rod. Refreshments and donuts will also be provided (while supplies last)!

Member and local fishing guide, Carter Berutti, brought this idea to the Board. It has been a busy season and we could not think of a better way to celebrate than cleaning up one of the well trafficked areas that needs some extra attention.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, October 18th! by @roaringforkfishguidealliance

Rivers in the Roaring Fork Watershed are currently flowing 40-65% of normal for this time of year. Fall was ushered in with rain and a dusting of snow in the high country. Despite increased precipitation over the last few weeks, the watershed remains in exceptional and extreme drought, per the U.S. Drought Monitor. There is one week left of the 2026 Water Year, and it will likely be recorded as the hottest on record. This water year, which runs October 1-September 30, broke records for the lowest snowpack, and the warmest meteorological winter, spring, and summer on record. Contract releases from Ruedi Reservoir continue to provide water dedicated to the Grand Valley irrigators. Those releases will gradually decrease as irrigation season comes to a close in the next few weeks. Whether angling, hiking, biking, or hunting, enjoy the beauty of the fall colors on display in the mountains.

Rivers in the Roaring Fork Watershed are flowing mostly below average at 17-116% of normal for this time of year. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, the watershed remains entirely in exceptional drought (5 of 5 levels of intensity) - beginning with the Basalt area, parts of the watershed have been at this level since Christmas Day. Despite the return of the monsoonal weather pattern, August precipitation totals have not provided much relief as rain gauges across the watershed have recorded less than half of normal precipitation. Releases from Ruedi Reservoir decreased 115 cfs at the end of last week, but then increased 60 cfs earlier this week, bringing current flows on the lower Fryingpan River to 435 cfs. As a reminder, these releases are being called for by entities with storage rights in the reservoir and they benefit downstream aquatic habitat and regional agricultural production.

The release from Ruedi Reservoir will be increased Tuesday morning, August 25th, by 49 cfs. The flow at the Fryingpan River gage below Ruedi will increase to 430 cfs.

Flows at this level will make wading and other river recreation more hazardous in the Fryingpan.
