Getting the 65 Mustang brake duct/quarter vent panel straightened out and welding in the scoop. This is the last bit of sheet metal work I’m doing on it before bringing it to @broadside_fab for some TLC (getting it closer to paint ready than I’m able to).

Pre-bumper-build teardown on the big green brick. When life gives you lemons (a hit and run), make lemonade (a Move Bumper).

Unfortunately, someone decided to use our Tundra as an analog parking sensor. Directly in front of our house. Fortunately, the folks at @movebumpers hooked us up with another Embark kit! So now the truck is going to match the van.

Ford E Series Tire Carrier - because everything has to be custom
•
Wrapped up the swingarm on our @movebumpers Embark bumper. It came together as a combination of parts from @sendcutsend and @4xinnovations, and some custom bits. The 4xI swingarm builder kit made a solid base for this with the super beefy hinge assembly, latches, and tubing. I made the Z-shaped plates with SCS to get the frame to wrap around the shape of the bumper. This thing is crazy strong. We’ll see how she holds up after some rough adventuring

‘65 Mustang quarter vent brake duct - getting the inner section (the hard part) wrapped up and ready to weld in. There was no plan for this part when I started building it, aside from “cut a hole and figure it out.”

Camper Van Build Pt 11 - The Stuffing
•
This was a painstaking and uncomfortable process but it’s worth the itchiness on the front end to have a better insulated van down the line. There are very good stuffable insulation options on the market, but these sheets had been returned to Lowe’s with open packaging so I got them super cheap. The cavities all got sealed up, and the whole van will get 3M Thinsulate before paneling the walls.

65 Mustang quarter vent - the part where it becomes functional.
•
All of this work is being done so we can put in a manifold to feed a brake duct. I cut out the section that terminated the body lines and held the “vent” trim piece, continued those lines through to the fender arch, and cut in a hole for the start of the duct. That tube needs to be shaped and welded in, then we can extend the fender arch to fill the current gap and get it all welded back together.

More fender scoopage on the 65 Mustang. Forming the rod to make the wire edge took an embarrassing amount of time, but it was worth it. Now to further upset the purists and cut into the quarter panel some more.

Concept -> Mockup -> V1 -> V2

Making up this outer scoop for the quarter panel vent on the 65 Mustang. We could’ve ordered some glass Shelby style scoops. Or @ulteriormotivesshop new sheet metal quarter scoops. But again, because I like to suffer, we’re making them from scratch. I still need to shape the leading edge, which will be a transitional angle between the door-to-quarter body line and the fender arch line. Then we’ll get to sort out the inner section for the brake cooling duct 🤓

Camper Van Build Pt 10 - The Coin Mat
•
Getting our front flooring and seat swivels installed. You can see how enthused I was with this process 🫩
The coin mat was supposed to be pre cut for the seats and have guidelines for the doghouse and footwell cuts. It wasn’t and didn’t, but we managed to figure it out all the same. At the end of the day we’ve got a comfortable and insulated floor, and nice swiveling front seats. Great success.
