Maude is certainly starting to blossom into a beautiful cat. While she’s still shy and timid, her surgical wounds are all healed up, and she is starting to show interest in the world around her. This week she had her first excursion outside her safe room, and into the rest of the apartment. We’ve discovered that she loves the texture of the small shag rug I bought for her, which is no surprise, it kind of feels a bit like grass. It’s her new favourite place to sit by the window enjoying the breeze that late summer brings. Her favourite thing is wet treats off the end of a finger. Now to work on acclimating her to being pet and brushed. by @robbiekl

I had some unexpected free time over the past week, so I popped into @craftdeville to find some supplies. It’s a really great shop and I found just what I needed to transform a thrifted shirt into something totally unexpected! So happy with the results, and happy to have found a new place to sock up on supplies! by @robbiekl

I recently discovered the City Walk Scarf by @cherishedfibres and thought it might be a nice quick summer project. When I went to choose yarn I fell in love with this blue colour called Boro. The pattern calls for a fingering weight cashmere, but I’m substituting their lace weight yak, and holding it double. The only mod I’ve made is to add an extra increase repeat before working straight for a while. I’m really pleased with how it’s turning out, and the yarn is really nice to work with! by @robbiekl

Just under two weeks ago, we found a smallish cat in the “ruelle” as it’s called here. She was clearly unable to see, bumping into walls and fences.

Luckily we were able to lure her to a crate with sardines, which is a smell I will never forget. Upon arriving at the shelter, it was determined she was blind due to an eye infection in both eyes, and would never recover from it. Her ear is tipped, and she wasn’t microchipped. No one around us recognized her. So she had no where else to go.

A few days later, she had her eyes removed. And the following day, she came to live with us for good.

At first I didn’t want to share a photo. It’s a difficult thing to see, mostly because her shaved upper face looks kind of ragged.

This brave little girl is teaching me an awful lot about the world, and inspiring me in a lot of ways. Sometimes she hisses at me, and some times I get a quick snuggle. And that’s okay… it’s definitely going to be a process, and one I’m willing to take at whatever pace she sets. While I can’t wait for the day I can post a photo of her having a snuggle or a good play, seeing her sleep on a comfortable blanket after a good meal she didn’t have to dig through the trash for is enough for today.

Having just experienced my first pluie verglaçante in Montréal, I have to say it is really quite beautiful. Late last night when I looked outside it was like small pieces of glass were falling from the sky. Today, everything looks like it has been beaded. Every day objects like plants and chain link fences take on a whole different vibe when the light hits them at the right angle. It might be cold, but it’s also very beautiful… and it certainly never looked like this in the many years I spent in Toronto… by @robbiekl

“Not only did this turn out to be difficult for [THREE Loose Ends] volunteers but after I’d requested help and sent it I learned the true history of the sweater. This was actually my grandmother’s unfinished project, which my mother had tried to take on without success.

Thankfully, Loose Ends found a way to help us. I am so happy that it actually fits me. I am wearing a sweater, holding a magazine my grandmother had started with but had altered to fit her. Once that was figured out Robbie* was able to finish the sweater! Quite a journey for this sweater.” — Janet

This project was attempted by Morgan, Suzan, & Anna, all Loose Ends volunteer finishers.

Finally, when we realized there were mysteries beyond most abilities, we sent this beauty across the Canadian border to our ace in the hole, finisher superhero, you may have heard of him, the amazing Robbie Laughlin. @robbiekl Robbie figured out that there were major structural complications with the cardigan, and he set to righting them, with Jane’s blessing.

*If you’ve been following Loose Ends for a while, you may remember that Robbie is the guy to who gets the hardest problems to solve - the projects that seem unfixable, unfinishable... (no pressure, Robbie) but so far, Robbie’s come through each time and flabbergasted us.

For this one, Robbie spent about 40 hours sleuthing, restructuring and knitting.
