“Not only did this turn out to be difficult for [THREE Loose Ends] volunteers but after I’d requested help and sent it I learned the true history of the sweater. This was actually my grandmother’s unfinished project, which my mother had tried to take on without success.

Thankfully, Loose Ends found a way to help us. I am so happy that it actually fits me. I am wearing a sweater, holding a magazine my grandmother had started with but had altered to fit her. Once that was figured out Robbie* was able to finish the sweater! Quite a journey for this sweater.” — Janet

This project was attempted by Morgan, Suzan, & Anna, all Loose Ends volunteer finishers.

Finally, when we realized there were mysteries beyond most abilities, we sent this beauty across the Canadian border to our ace in the hole, finisher superhero, you may have heard of him, the amazing Robbie Laughlin. @robbiekl Robbie figured out that there were major structural complications with the cardigan, and he set to righting them, with Jane’s blessing.

*If you’ve been following Loose Ends for a while, you may remember that Robbie is the guy to who gets the hardest problems to solve - the projects that seem unfixable, unfinishable... (no pressure, Robbie) but so far, Robbie’s come through each time and flabbergasted us.

For this one, Robbie spent about 40 hours sleuthing, restructuring and knitting.

I’ve got some texture going, I’ve got some twists, and I’ve veered off course with @robbiekl ‘s Texture and Twists shawl pattern with this bright red DK! I was trying to get this completed in time for the #hamiltonfibreforge ( @thefibreforge ) but I was so busy with family and the Tellybean Christmas MKAL sets I couldn’t cast on in time 😭

This pattern is SO RELAXING - perfect for a little break before I have to put it down to start the Tellybean MKAL on December 1st (thank you to all who have purchased kits, it’s going to be so much fun 🤗). I will be picking it back up again afterwards so I can show it off at the #hamiltonfibreforge in March, along with everybody else’s!!

There will be an awesome prize basket for one lucky knitter attending the March fibre forge - check out the @thefibreforge page for details (pinned at the top of their page!)

And check out Robbie’s page for more beautiful examples of this shawl and to check out how much he was able to raise for the Loose Ends Project with the release of this pattern!! ( @thelooseendsproject )

The most wonderful and amazing Robbie Laughlin, pattern designer, professor and Loose Ends finisher, has designed a shawl and is making it available as a free @hi.ravelry download until Nov. 13 - with a suggested donation to Loose Ends. Robbie is our ace in the hole, our go-to whenever a project is extra complicated or baffling. He’s finished a few projects to date, and is now teaching Tunisian crochet to a project owner who would like to finish her loved one’s project herself... in a word, he’s a gift. If you’re interested in his pattern, you can find it at the link in our bio (you’ll need to log in to Ravelry first). This effort is a collaboration with the Hamilton Fibre Forge in Ontario.

Today on the blog: Vaporcloud by @robbiekl. This Blue Vaporcloud Shawl is the second of Robbie Laughlin’s patterns we’ve knit here on Kiku Corner, which are both published in his e-book Architexture: Shape and Surface. It is a crescent shawl meant to be knit in a gradient of colours. It also incorporates different stitch patterns and short rows, which make for an interesting knit. Link in bio.

It was so nice to do a knitting class again. I took an Introduction to Brioche with @robbiekl at Spin Me A Yarn. Now to pick a pattern to knit 😁 Looking forward to taking more classes in the future. #knitting #briocheknitting #spinmeayarn

There were only some minor adjustments to the shawl. I had three equal cakes of yarn, so I used all three instead of the two colours called for in the pattern. The two lighter shades made up the first solid section. You can see the changeover in the middle of the shawl that appears like a natural fade.
