Mo Wandan & Emma Pei wears PINK at Madame Butterfly By John Galliano for DIOR. Haute Couture Spring Summer 2007.
What psychological process did it take to lift John Galliano to the extraordinary place of brilliance he reached—or rather, rediscovered—in his Spring couture? Everything about the Dior collection—inspired, he said, “by Pinkerton’s affair with Cio-Cio San, Madame Butterfly”—reconfirmed his unique talent to evoke beauty, sensitivity, narrative, and emotion in a fashion show. Kimonos, obis, and geisha makeup were Dior-ified, transformed into delicate translations of New Look peplum suits and full-skirted dance dresses. Each look sprouted yet more miraculous planes of origami folding, their stiff geometries creating necklines like flowers or hovering birds. Every dress had an intense color and character of its own; a hot pink, an eau-de-nil with coral, cascading shades of burgundy and imperial purple. Some were painted, others sculpted from curviform furls of woven straw. Written by @sarahmower_ for @voguemagazine

So this lovely shot didn’t make the last post - but this video has, not for its shining brilliance of cinematography but for its honesty and the geezer walking past who says “ it’s so cool “ 🆒 a non fashion looking guy .. just walking past with a pint .. It raises the question as to what we want to see when we go to an exhibition. Whats the thing that draws us in.. my answer is humanity .. Roberts work reflects this .. it’s not just about beauty or clothes or fabulous looking interesting people .. it’s about life and the rapport and the moment - the energy or inspiration .. the effort and hard work that’s gone into creating the look… The detail.
It feels about time to start raising the bar on the question of the contributors and collaborators and their skills .. that define a collection or trend .. without these artists taste and style encrypted into every collection or emerging new visual .. where would be ?
Time to start looking beyond the actual designer and to the teams that build a theme or narrative like a pyramid that holds its position and finds its way to the street and to us... this is where the real craft lies- beyond the shop window and into the shop…
Just a thought .. as to how we present a show to you and offer you a chance to live it with us behind the scenes- in real time.

Last night in London.. a very exciting group of the British genius talent that has risen over the last 4 decades .. and above a few examples of what we can do. Christian Dior’s “Le Bal des Artistes” refers to the iconic Fall/Winter 2007–2008 Haute Couture collection designed by John Galliano.

Key Details of the Collection

• Milestone: The show celebrated the 60th anniversary of the House of Dior and Galliano’s 10th anniversary as its artistic director.
• Location: Staged at the grand Orangerie of the Palace of Versailles.
• Inspiration: Drawing from Christian Dior’s own background as a gallery owner and art dealer before he became a couturier, Galliano was inspired by master European painters and their subjects—spanning from Boucher, Watteau, and Tiepolo to Monet, Renoir, and Picasso.
• Aesthetics: Models walked the runway looking like figures stepping straight out of classical and modern paintings, featuring exaggerated historical silhouettes, theatrical hair and makeup, custom embroidery by Maison Lesage, and millinery by Stephen Jones.
