\
[...] And at the very same time that photographers who have never met are drawn to one another, two musicians from vastly different backgrounds are also experiencing an equally unstoppable elective affinity that produces music perfect as the ideal soundtrack for this dreamlike exhibition: Anushka Chkheidze and Robert Lippok, she 29, he 60, are releasing their second collaborative album, “The Sky Was Out of Tune,” a dreamlike 25-minute piece released by the prestigious Morr Music label. [...] “We met in Tbilisi in 2019, during an improvisation session at an ambient music workshop. Anushka played the piano, and within a minute, I knew I wanted to work with her. The clarity, simplicity, and beauty of the chords and melodies she played immediately touched my heart,” says Lippok, as we stroll through the intersection of Kreuzberg and Neukölln—the two most creative and multi-ethnic neighborhoods in this city that never seems to sleep.

The set design for Hamlet is taking shape today. From tomorrow, we’ll be rehearsing on the main stage at the @blnensemble This is my first collaboration with Ersan Mondtag.

We met at the 60th Venice Biennale.
The German contribution to the event comprised two parts: the Pavilion, featuring Yael Bartana and Ersan Mondtag; and the island of La Certosa, which featured sound works by Nicole L’Huillier, Michael Akstaller, Jan St. Werner and me. The entire project was curated by @ilkcagla . Two years on, I am developing the soundscape and composing the score for Hamlet. I can’t wait to hear how it all sounds – the theatre’s sound system is phenomenal. taken in Berliner Ensemble by @robert_lippok

Innamorarsi a Berlino
Today in Il Foglio: “Wahlverwandtschaften” at Johanna Breede PHOTOKUNST brings together 24 photographers who never met, yet seem made for each other.
Vittorio Bongiorno, Italian filmmaker, photographer and author, calls it a love story among strangers.
I’m delighted that Anushka Chkheidze and I, along with our album “The Sky Was Out of Tune” (Morr Music), are part of the story.

„…..For him, too, the image Goethe borrows from chemistry fits perfectly with his conception of music:
“The collaboration with Anushka was completely unplanned, and yet from the moment we started, it
seemed inevitable, as if our sounds already knew each other in some way before they met. That’s why I
hold dear the phrase by Donna Haraway (the American feminist theorist, ed.) ‘make kin’—to create
kinships, alliances, and mutual responsibility.”
The “Elective Affinities” showcased by Johanna Breede reveal the wondrous enigma of connections
between human beings, just like the music produced by Chkheidze and Lippok. And, as Goethe writes
in the final pages of his novel: “If one of the two had been confined to the far end of the house, the
other, instinctively, without meaning to, would have gradually drawn closer to him. Life was an enigma
to them, the solution to which they could find only together.” by @robert_lippok

Anushka Chkheidze + Robert Lippok :: The Sky Was Out of Tune (Morr Music)

"Natural recordings, soft rhythms, distortion, metallic noises, melody, and digital artifacts continually lean against one another without settling. By the end it feels less like eight compositions and more like half an hour spent inside a system that was continuously adjusting itself while you were listening, and never quite finished." by @robert_lippok

ROBERT LIPPOK & LUCAS GUTIERREZ [DE+AR]
AVB2BVA

Audiovisual performances can be a little too well behaved: sound and image respond to one another, and after a few minutes, the logic of their relationship becomes predictable. AVB2BVA is interesting for how it unsettles those roles, making authorship harder to assign to either side.

Robert Lippok and Lucas Gutierrez expand the back-to-back DJ format into an improvised exchange of sound and moving image. Having worked together since Applied Autonomy in 2018, they bring years of collaboration to a situation that still asks them to make decisions on the spot. Knowing someone’s habits gives you a way to follow them—and a chance to push them somewhere less familiar.

Lippok’s detailed electronic rhythms and Gutierrez’s abstract digital imagery exchange its texture. But technical complexity alone isn’t what makes the pairing worth catching. Neither medium simply accompanies the other: each artist helps shape the direction of both sound and image. Their distinct approaches become a shared narrative, blurring the line between who is leading and who is following.

At MUTEK.JP 2026, AVB2BVA offers a chance to observe that working relationship in public. The small decisions are worth paying attention to as much as the big gestures: a shift in rhythm or image can reveal how two artists arrive at something neither would make alone.

y next solo concert takes place on 30 November at the Church of San Fedele in Milan, as part of @inner_spaces.sfm At the invitation of Father Antonio Pileggi and @massimocolomboo , I’m creating a new work, commissioned for the series.
The evening is built around choral works by Arvo Pärt, alongside three compositions of my own — gestures and resonators that expand the sonic space the voices leave behind. At its heart stands Pärt’s Missa syllabica (1977).
Over the last day and a half I’ve been able to get to know the acoustics of the space and try out some first ideas of my own in it. Father Antonio played a short piece on the small organ — a purely mechanical instrument, which allows for „tricks“ impossible on modern organs: striking the keys very slowly, or opening a stop only halfway to produce beat frequencies.
Yesterday I got to hear wonderful performances by Beatrice Dillon and Loscil, spatialised across the whole auditorium through the Acousmonium Sator. Its loudspeakers — some fifty of them, ranged around the hall — somehow remind me of the figures in Oskar Schlemmer’s Triadic Ballet. At some point I’d like to write a piece for each of them — one for every speaker. Who knows if I ever will. But the coming weeks and months are going to be exciting for sure. by @robert_lippok

We would like to present the next video from this year’s SUPERBOOTH26, featuring the concert by Anushka Chkheidze and Robert Lippok.

We first discovered Anushka a few years ago at a small summer outdoor event in Potsdam, where she performed a refreshing solo live set.
The friendly connection between Robert and us goes back many years, and this was not the first time he had performed at Superbooth.

Anushka and Robert first met in 2019 during a workshop in Tbilisi connected to the work on “Glacier Music II.” Their musical collaboration has led to numerous joint performances of various kinds and already two LPs, the second of which will be released in just a few days.

We were very happy to have Anushka and Robert perform on our stage at SB26 and hope you enjoy watching the video. It’s available on our yt channel.
