Fun day getting the patio cleared, cleaned and everything put away. 85% complete. Breakfast and lunch at home. Mortadella sandwiches in the morning and lentil chicken soup for afternoon. Then treated ourselves to a drink and bite out. Lucky and thankful. Have a great weekend everyone! XO
PS if you are in the mood for a tasty cocktail and great French food, if you haven’t been, try @avertbrasserie . Always a favorite for us. Sit at the bar and enjoy!
Then the best coffee in town @yemericacoffee .

Don’t miss “Down and Dirty” hosted by @haseinc to benefit @hartfordartschool faculty and staff development funds.
.
Join us for workshops in several areas, taught by HAS faculty. I’m running a session on cyanotypes and solar prints. Experiment and create, while enjoying a glass of wine, cocktail and heavy apps for the night. Meet new people, try something different and walk away with a unique piece you make by hand. In a world full of screens and apps, take a break, slow down and come get your hands dirty with me.
.
Visit the website included in the third photo for details and cost. Your contribution goes a long way to helping us promote the fine arts.
.
And an auction/ sale of faculty and staff works is part of the event. Your chance to purchase a great work and further support the HAS cause.

More from Experimental Photo students @hartfordartschool . It only gets better…every class meeting brings another exciting experience! That magic moment when we get it.
Solarization or the Sabattier effect in photography is when you intentionally subject the photo paper to a blast of light just after entering the developer. The results vary greatly as many variables can impact the final image. These are some wonderful examples. #solarization #sabattiereffect #artschoollife #fi̇neartphotography #teachingartist taken in Hartford Art School by @robertcalafiore

Thanks to @garrettuhde from @definingphotovideo for the cool new promo portrait. Drop them a line if you need any artwork documentation, event photography or video, portraits etc.
And meanwhile, don’t miss the @hartfordartschool faculty exhibition at the Joseoff Gallery @has_galleries up through mid December. See this large figurative work of mine, plus incredible work by my colleagues. #artschool #fineartphotograghy #artfaculty #pinholephotography #cameraobscura taken in Joseloff Gallery by @robertcalafiore

Experimental Photography: a 20”x 16” chemigram demo print I made while working with students in class @hartfordartschool
Chemigrams are made by exposing light sensitive photo paper, in this case color paper, to room light/sunlight and then applying print processing chemicals in atypical order at various temperatures and dilutions.
The best part is not knowing everything that’s going to happen and only having 75% control. The other 25% is chance and artist intution.
Having a blast being back in the classroom. Students are amazing in all three of my classes:

A gift. Unexpected. Incredibly poignant. An old high school friend, Bill, the longest friendship I’ve had in my life, showed up with this figurine last time we hung out a week ago. It sums up the continuing relationship in so many ways. Never perfect but always there…sometimes day to day, sometimes year to year. Thanks friend! 📸 #friendship #highschoolfriends #fineartsphotography taken in West Hartford, Connecticut by @robertcalafiore

Intro to Analog Photography @hartfordartschool . Working hard gets results. @nettielombardimua . Incredible work for project #1. This course is the first for second year students, leading to a series including advanced analog printing classes, view camera, analog color, experimental, seminar and exhibition practices, and digital. Stay tuned to see the rest of the work from the class Tuesday, when this assignment is due. So happy to see them excited and making!! #artschool #analogphotography taken in Hartford Art School by @robertcalafiore

Wow! Experimental class students first attempts at chemigrams! No digital anything. All hands on making. Light, chemistry, paper, process and play. It feels so good to watch them explore and let go of preconceived notions of photography and what it can be. I heard one student say “it’s so cool that this is photography”! Agreed. I think so too. Huge thanks to my class. Can’t wait to see what they do on day two.
.
And remember to join us tonight if you can, for the opening of “Light Travelers, Robert Calafiore, Ellen Carey and Liz Nielsen” from 5:00-7:30 at Chase Family Gallery, JCC, 335 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT.
