Built like a house of cards out of slip-trailed phrases like cage fight, flooded, freedom, UFC, spectacle, slopaganda, octagon girls, !CE and despite, the porcelain structure in this piece ended up throne-like, to my surprise. The base emerged from the word circus, and, to latch on to a landscape of some hope, I made multicolored “despite” clouds to encircle it. The aura needed interruption, though, so to deny direct access I made a mini chain link fence.

Collectively, I am calling it Despite.

Despite the intensity of what seems like a new boiling point moment every day, I am proud and grateful beyond words to be a part of this beautiful exhibit with my colleagues at the @hartfordartschool . It’s an honor to see my piece nestled between Jared Holt’s unbelievable interactive sculpture and the brilliant photographs of @ellencareyphotography and @robertcalafiore . Gallery Director/Curator @adamcharleschau did an astute and elegant job arranging and installing the show. Stay tuned for more images of all the work.

On view through December 4 at Joseloff Gallery @universityofhartford @has_galleries

Last weekend, we celebrated many @hartfordartschool accomplishments at the @nbmaa56 annual Nor’easter exhibit: current ceramics Post Bac Diana Deng @studio_deng and alumni Emily Albee @emily.albee both had their spectacular work selected, and Photo Faculty @robertcalafiore gave his juror’s talk to a packed crowd. We couldn’t be more proud of these and all the other HAS folks in the show. On view through Sept. 13 ~~ Don’t miss it!

@ocean_vuong ~ You said something about words spoken aloud becoming emptiness as air, breath in the room. I am so grateful to have your thoughts from Thursday in my lungs and will chew on the challenging new negative spaces they carved out in my mind.
.
Seeing you speak about your Hartford roots and photography exhibition at the @thewadsworth was a full circle moment for me too, as hearing your ideas about language and life on @onbeing in 2020 helped give me the courage to move here to Connecticut from Kansas. If Hartford helped form you, it had something for me.
.
Special thanks to my VIP friend and colleague @robertcalafiore and @matthew_hargraves for this magical experience.

I was moved and overwhelmed by love at the opening of my Mixed Messages show at @fivepointsartsct last weekend. Not sure I have ever received so many flowers all at once! 🪷 To all past & present @hartfordartschool colleagues & students -and friends- who made the trip: thank you. 🥲 It has been a roller coaster of a year and somehow this all came together - but YOU made it beautiful. 🩵
.
The show is open - along with 2 other fantastic exhibits - through June 13, and I will be giving an artist talk on Fri. May 29 at 6:30. I was excited to show some new wall installations, a video and other works spanning the last 10 years. Hope you get a chance to see it!
.
Generous support for this exhibit came@from the @haseinc @universityofhartford & @ctofficeofthearts - and thanks to those that shared photos!

How many men does it take to make a delicious homemade Raviolo dinner? Apparently 3 Italians and a Peruvian 🤣 Thanks boys for a wonderful evening with good friends sharing recipes, wine and laughter! #friends #raviolidinner #cooking #appreciative

Second year judging the National Arts Program Exhibit at CT State Capital Community College. Always a pleasure.

I had the opportunity to share the role with these fantastic creatives: @mander.roy @jonmeastman @robertcalafiore @valerieelizabethcicero

Choosing prize winners is never easy. The show includes a wide range of mediums and perspectives. The youth categories add another layer, with artists at different stages of development. It leads to thoughtful conversation and careful decisions.

It was wonderful to see the work and spend time talking through it together.

Awards presentation
Wednesday, March 18 · 6 PM
CT State Capital Community College
950 Main Street, Hartford, 2nd Floor Atria

The youth and teen categories are also on view in the 1st floor gallery. There is a lot of good work in this show.

Thank you @ilana.bernstein79 @crt_ct @nationalarts

ARTIST CONVERSATION | Saturday, January 31

Join Hartford-based photographer Robert Calafiore and Jared Quinton, Emily Hall Tremaine Associate Curator of Contemporary Art, for a conversation on Calafiore’s newly acquired work. Using a hand-built pinhole camera, Calafiore creates large-format prints that often incorporate his family’s collection of everyday glassware — transforming the familiar into something quietly luminous.

📍 Meet outside the Museum Shop
🎟 Free with admission | Registration encouraged

Robert Calafiore, Oggetti di Vetro, Fuoco (detail), 2014. Unique pinhole camera c-prints. Purchased through the gift of Robinson A. and Nancy D. Grover, in remembrance of Marcia Reid Marsted, 2025.34. Presented with support from the Joseph and Robert Cornell Memorial Foundation Fund at The Wadsworth.
