I always think of @shafakelif extraordinary words “All trees, like people, have souls. They speak with their leaves. They sing with their branches” from her majestic novel ‘The Island of Missing Trees’ 🌳 The Fig Tree in the heart of our Puglia garden has an extraordinary presence and grace, it draws you in and embraces you with its natural beauty found in its spherical structure, and with its dome of green coolness in high summer it’s a haven to the scorching heat and while the earth basks the tree then offers yearly the most delicious and abundant fruits as summer gives way to autumn. The fig tree garden with its lavender walkway was one of first gardens I designed, helped build and then planted and then have nurtured over the years. This October I’m taking a small group to @masseriapotenti in Puglia for seven nights.

One of my clients messaged me the morning after a session and said she slept so well, and her stress level on her Oura ring was three times lower than normal, which is very unheard of for her.

Every morning we practise yoga and meditation with @alignwithrainbow.
In the afternoons we get our hands in the soil with @robertmanngarden.
Energy workshop, harvesting, cooking, the vineyard, the sea.

5 to 12 October. A small group of us, because we want to keep it intimate.

September, the most golden of months 💛

With its light - becoming softer, warmer it glows through the garden turning flowers golden and catching fruit as it ripens on the trees.

Here are some of favourite moments from my gardens over Septembers past for this Sunday morning.

I’ve always loved edible gardening — the simple pleasure of growing, picking and eating is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Figs warm from the tree, apples and plums, endless tomatoes, with flowers for the table too.

Gardening connects us to the seasons, to our food and to each other.

“Si les ingrédients sont bons, la cuisine c’est que de la découpe.” My mother-in-law’s words, translated: if the ingredients are good enough, you don’t need to cook them. When we were thinking about what to plant for our first season, we wanted to be extremely intentional, planting with the table in mind and choosing things with a surprise and delight factor that could live on their own. Cherry tomatoes were just that. They’re the first thing gone at apéro, picked straight off the vine by the kids before they even make it inside, and if a few do reach the kitchen they just get tossed into a salad. #sebastopol #sonomacounty #regenerativefarming #apero taken in Sebastopol, California by @robertmanngarden

Hot, hot summer days of August • At its most beautiful.

The countryside all golden, baked biscuit but with sparklers of late summer flowers — the gorgeous sky-blue chicory and ribbons of egg-yolk yellow toadflax.

In the orchard, grapes and plums in abundance, the first apples ripening. A comma butterfly 🦋 spotted on the flowering mint is a favourite of mine.

And, as the heat fades out, a rising Virgo moon 🍊

Summer, bottled 🍑

Bowls and bowls of plums, greengages and apricots.

I adore this moment of summertime — where there is so much garden produce, the only answer is jam.

There’s something so real about making homemade jam. I love it. Mum and I spend hours and hours chopping, chatting, weighing sugar, re-weighing, making our own pectin to help set the jam and then carefully watching over the heated, sugary, jammy cauldron of “summer” slowly becoming jam.

A bit messy, very sticky, and deeply satisfying.

And, then come winter, opening a jar of your own jam is one of the best feelings — well, tastes — ever 😋 taken in Cambridgeshire by @robertmanngarden
