Puccini’s Tosca is as thrilling to hear as it is to watch!

Music Director Roberto Kalb leads the Detroit Opera Orchestra through one of opera’s most dramatic scores during Sitzprobe rehearsals. From the ominous opening chords to the soaring melodies of its most beloved arias, Puccini’s music captures every twist of the story.

“You have to go to everything; I don’t know what you would miss,” says @robertokalb of the Detroit Opera's upcoming 2026-27 season.

Kalb, a conductor and the Detroit Opera’s music director, says the opera specifically curated the season so “nothing was missable.”

“Every single piece has something so unique that really, it lends itself to buying the whole package,” he insists. The package includes an experimental piece by Philip Glass, fan favorite Fiddler on the Roof, and opera classic Tosca (in Kalb’s words, “Puccini at his finest”), with “our wonderful” Detroit Opera Chorus and Orchestra accompanying each performance.

O Mimi tu più non torni 😭
Back to The Met for “La Bohème” tonight and what a sheer joy to step out on this stage once again!

So much to love about this opera, especially the camaraderie and having fun on stage with the guys. This clip is from last season with my friend and top-class baritone @davide__luciano in the role of Marcello.

Bring on tonight! Toi toi toi to the whole company 🙌🏻

On this International Day of Non-Violence, we are thrilled to announce Indian-Australian tenor Shanul Sharma will portray M.K. Gandhi in SATYAGRAHA by @philipglass at the Detroit Opera House on April 17, 2027.

As part of Glass’ 90th birthday season, this unprecedented operatic experience will extend beyond the stage into a transcendent visual and sound meditation on truth, resistance, and spiritual force.

Congratulations Shanul on this historic USA debut!

Loving working the title role of Andrea Chenier with my great friend and great Maestro @RobertoKalb alongside the wonderful @latoscanini … by @robertokalb

Saying goodbye is never easy, but especially to this amazing Team and this amazing Götterdämmerung.

I’ve had the pleasure to sing Brünnhilde many times, and all of them have been memorable, however this one holds a special place in my heart. Because of this incredible group of talented artists, the spectacular team at @theatlantaopera including @tomerzvulun, stage management, administration, and absolutely everyone involved, a powerful and unforgettable performance of this opera was created for the first time for Atlanta audiences.

I sure hope we can all come together again soon to create more Wagnerian magic. by @robertokalb
