The first episode of Thinking Deeply with the @wadham_experience is now live on Linktree in my bio.

It was a great conversation at @nedsclubs London, with 250 on the waiting list, on what AI takes from us, what it returns, and why these questions reach back through centuries of thinking about the mind and human agency.

It sparked questions in the room that will be posted later - on environmental impact, whether machine learning is actually driving growth, and why good AI should be like your grandmother.

Can AI systems think? Can they deceive us? Whose interests do they serve and how should we use them?

The Ned partners with the University of Oxford’s Wadham College to present Thinking Deeply, a new conversation series examining how we navigate change and make sense of the defining ideas of our time.

Join Professor Christopher Summerfield — Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at Oxford, founding researcher at DeepMind, and Research Director at the UK AI Safety Institute - in conversation with Robin Clyfan, as they explore how to understand these strange new minds and think clearly about one of the most consequential developments of our age. by @robin_clyfan

Loved being back hosting @sundaypaperslive last week, and standing by this exceptional fire.
We had talks that ranged from the unpredictability of the electorate from @danny.dorling (The University of Oxford), to how to navigate polyamory with the amazing @rubyrare. Loved talking to @veritybabbsart about the history of art and why renaissance Jesus was painted as a hench boy . @izzywithers is an exceptional musician and is certain to play Glastonbury Pyramid stage 2029, you heard it here first. @shaunusher’s Diaries of Note was deeply moving and funny and @adam.floatinghome and @rosieviva spoke brilliantly on unconventional living.
@sonandsonsuk were hilarious, vivacious and a highlight as ever.

See you in December ⭐️❤️🔥 #sundays #sundaypapers by @robin_clyfan

In a time when there are few new bands breaking through and much of the arts is dominated by the privately educated, are Oasis the last great rock n roll rags to riches story?
I spoke to Iain Robertson, their old tour manager and author of ‘Oasis: What’s the story?’ about their enduring appeal and Liam’s super power, his lack of filter, for @sundaypaperslive - the full interview in on their YouTube page.

NB I interviewed him before tickets were £360, so couldn’t interrogate where that sits with ‘authenticity’

MUSIC SECTION: Inside the Music Industry: Art, Ownership and AI - Låpsley in conversation with Robin Clyfan

Who really holds the power in the music industry? At 18, Låpsley signed to XL Recordings and went on to release her debut album Long Way Home. More than a decade later, she's released four albums, launched her own record label and become an in-demand songwriter, with credits including the platinum-selling Out Out and collaborations with Barry Can't Swim and ODESZA.

At Sunday Papers Live, Låpsley joins Robin Clyfan for a conversation about the changing music industry, from the realities of record deals and creative independence to artist ownership and the growing influence of AI.

Her latest album, I'M A HURRICANE I'M A WOMAN IN LOVE, marked a new chapter of independence, released through her own label with full creative control. Now, as she works on her fifth album, she's reconsidering what she wants from the industry and the role major labels might play in her future.

What does it mean to build a sustainable creative career today? And how will AI change the lives of the people who make the music we love? Plus, she'll be finishing the conversation with an intimate live performance.

Professor Christopher Summerfield — Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Oxford, fellow at Wadham College, founding researcher at DeepMind, and Research Director at the UK AI Safety Institute — on what AI advances mean for us.

As AI advances, now more than ever is the time to foreground the humanities. Technological advance turns the mirror back on what is human. Part of that is thinking deeply about challenging issues at times of great change.

One thing AI can do is code. One thing it can’t do is be the arbiter of human meaning. Human judgment and the humanities are vital - that’s the manifesto of the @wadham_experience

What do you think? Join the discussion at the Wadham Experience.

What can comedy teach us about disinformation?

At the Cambridge Disinformation Summit last month, Sage & Jester hosted 'A Comedian’s Guide to Audience Manipulation' - a live conversation between comedian Katherine Ryan and host @robin_clyfan exploring the surprising overlap between stand-up comedy and the mechanics of influence.

Together, they unpacked how techniques like timing, relatability, emotional connection, pattern interruption and misdirection can shape the way audiences engage with information - and why those same dynamics are increasingly relevant in today’s media landscape.

At Sage & Jester, we believe tackling disinformation isn’t only a technological challenge - it’s a cultural one. That means exploring new ways to engage people through creativity, participation and storytelling.

Thanks to Katherine Ryan, Robin Clyfan, and the Cambridge Disinformation Summit for an energising and thought-provoking conversation.

Stay tuned for more insights from the session over the coming weeks.

“He’s just joking, Dad.” Louis Theroux, speaking to @robin_clyfan at our ‘Cult of the Online’ event at @howthelightgetsinfestival , discussed who becomes vulnerable to radicalisation and shared a story from his own dinner table that shows just how fast extreme content can reach even the most switched-on households.

It’s exactly why Sage & Jester exists: to use entertainment to expose how disinformation and manipulation shape what we see, think and feel. by @robin_clyfan
