The following morning, after my artist’s talk for my new book Celebrate!, I reflected on the conversation I had with Betil Dagdelen. During the talk, I had planned to speak more about how I made the work. The process, my thoughts, and my considered approach to making the images. The time went by too fast, and I meandered into different directions and different visual worlds. I wanted to say more about the black shapes (which I hardly spoke about), why I had included them in the images, and what they meant to me. The contrast between the strong black shapes and the color rectangles, taken from a Lee filter book. And about what happens behind the black objects.
