How far are you willing to go for your art, and what have you already sacrificed?

That’s what I ask @anshumanvocals_ a charming and extraordinarily talented musician in Himachal, in the remote north of India. He doesn’t even try to pose big. He gives himself to the conversation, open and warm, and admits his mistakes: “I am a very normal person. Like I have my flaws. Like I also lie. Like I also do bad things. I accept it.”

An episode of @stillhuman_podcast, hosted by @robinlehoff that invites you to look again at your own creativity, your own creative power and your own dreams. Online now on Spotify, YouTube and everywhere you get podcasts. Comment "podcast" and I'll send you a link. As always, I’m happy about feedback ❤️🔗

Broken bones but hopelessly in love. I mean, how could you not be?

We live in cycles, we live in phases. Everywhere there are gifts, small miracles, moments of pausing, of appreciation, of gratitude. Life is beautiful (if you want to see it that way), and life is hard (if you want to see it that way).
Nature does not care about any of this. It just is. The earth turns. The sun is slowly burning itself out. The moon moves the oceans, and all this and more leads to spectacles that our sensory and cognitive layers just judge however they are capable of judging. Why it is all like this, nobody knows anyway.
So why not just be hopelessly in love with life?

Cheers from Hanoi. I wrote another text on Substack. If you want to read it comment "coconut coffee" 😋 🇻🇳

I didn't fight bears and return home as Odysseus. I just fell off a motorcycle.

Just an evening earlier, I had my first attempt at playing and spinning with fire... nothing happened there. But, for falling off the bike and rolling over the street with my entire body, it’s actually a miracle I got away with so few scratches. My entire planning for the next months completely dissolved into thin air.

I’m sitting in the humid monsoon heat right now with two broken fingers, trying to figure out what's next, while learning what there is to learn.

Hedonism says to avoid pain at all costs. Well..

How do you handle sudden incidents/accidents that crash your plans? Do you look for the lesson, or do you just endure it?

P. S.

The days before that were really beautiful, thanks to everyone who participated and enriched them.

It moves me to see what happened to Nepal and Tibet.

I'm sending my thoughts and my compassion to everyone out there.I was there in April and May, so it's a strange feeling.

We recorded an episode that just came out, and the message feels clearer than ever.

Be your own light.

Thank you Pema.

Thank you Tergar Osel Ling Monastery in Kathmandu.

I am infinitely grateful to India once again. The diversity of impressions inspires me to explore my own inner diversity on a deeper level. I surprise myself every time, just as India surprises me. What do I take with me? Friendship. Less dust on my own light. More courage to be myself and to celebrate that.

India has no boundaries, or completely different ones.
Netiquette barely exists, yet the desire for connection is unique. How often I found myself in conversations with neighboring scooters in traffic jams. Everyone wants to help you, invite you for food or tea, or hand you their phone to make a call. A genuine curiosity about who you are, what moves you, and how you are doing.

Mountains, rivers, lakes, desert, jungle, tropics, snow, tigers. A world of 1,600 languages, where only 40 percent of 1.4 billion people speak Hindi. Understanding here is a massive topic that opens up an entire universe. Chaos. Inspiration. India demands everything: from you, from me, from itself, constantly. India has so much potential, and it forces me to recognize my own deeper than ever.

I wrote a small essay about this lovely country. I would love for you to read it, comment "India" and I'll send it to you.

Why not break out? Then I go to jail.

We were five days into Kashmir before I checked the news.
Foreign ministries warning of high-risk zones. Soldiers every ten minutes. Houses collapsed into rivers from the monsoon.
And in the exact same hour, we're sitting on a wooden boat on Wular Lake, eating momos and roasted water chestnuts given to us by a fisherman’s son.
At night, sitting with a police commissioner on duty who reads Karl Marx and sees himself as a prisoner of the system. "Why not break out? Then I go to jail." But not out of bitterness, rather just a quiet, settled reality.
We keep trying to categorize life into neat boxes. Is this safe or dangerous? Is this beautiful or terrifying?
Kashmir Shaivism tells us that the whole universe, with all its beauty and pain, is free, dancing consciousness itself. You can have the most beautiful evening and be desperate the next morning. Beauty or its opposite are only judgments.
If you want to read the full essay on Wular Lake, moral philosophy, and Kashmir Shaivism, comment KASHMIR below and I’ll send you the text

The efficient mind always demands that everything makes sense, that everything is lucrative. But art doesn't care about concepts like that. Art just glows silently like a firefly in the dark and says: I live.

Looking at recent photos of myself out here and realizing I’m facing someone I partly don't even recognize anymore.

We put so much pressure on ourselves to always be perfectly "authentic" and fit into neat little identity boxes, when maybe the real work is just lovingly embracing the chaotic struggle of not having it all figured out.

I’ve been leaning a lot into the darker, unpolished corners of this journey lately, learning to let go of fixed identities. Put down some raw words about this internal shift and the wild chaos of the East. If you want to read the full story behind the image:

A dog in the Himalayas bit me.

That was not the plan.

In paragliding, there is a syndrome called Icarus. It literally means: don't fly too high. The sky is infinite up there. Clouds don't look like clouds. Scale disappears. You only notice how close you are when it's too late.

I thought I understood the metaphor.

The dog had other plans.
I wrote about plans, about goals and letting go.

New essay on Substack. Link in bio.

I'll never forget how the sun fights its way blood-red through the smog over Varanasi, to mirror itself in a sublime, shining gold on the holy river Ganges. The city has its own magic and I knew I needed to Interview an Aghori.

In an ashram there I met Sadhu Ji. Someone who left family and the worldly behind to serve. Not allowed to beg, only to accept gifts. Sleeping outside.

We talked about how a life feels when you no longer fear death. Out of one conversation came an invitation, and I stayed two more days.

Idealism lives here.

What would you have asked him?

(Rest is in my bio.)
